Thirty-one accessions of Citrullus spp. belonging to Citrullus lanatus var. lanatus, C. lanatus var. citroides and Citrullus colocynthis were subjected to phylogenetic analysis using combined datasets of amplified fragment length polymorphisms (AFLPs) and simple sequence repeats (SSRs). Tree topologies inferred by neighbour-joining analysis have resolved the phylogenic relationships among the species with special reference to established taxonomic classification. In this study, we have clearly resolved species boundaries of various taxa of citroides, lanatus and colocynthis into three well-supported clusters. Clustering pattern of principal component analysis with the shared polymorphisms using the subsets of data between any two taxon combinations helped to elucidate the introgression and interrelationships among the species. We report two major groups of C. lanatus taxa, one of which has undergone wide introgressions with the taxa of C. lanatus var. citroides and C. colocynthis. In this paper, we identified 583 AFLP bands that are polymorphic within the var. lanatus of C. lanatus, which is the largest set ever reported. The species-specific diagnostic SSRs and polymorphic AFLPs that are informative within and between the taxa reported in this paper would be immensely useful for future studies of these economically important genera. © 2009 NIAB. Molecular and crystal structures of N-alkoxy-N-chloroureas and N,N-dialkoxyureas were studied together with those of N-alkoxyureas as reference compounds. N-Alkoxy-N-chloroureas were found to have an elongated N - Cl bond and a shortened N-O(Alk) bond due to the nO(Alk)→σN-Cl anomeric effect. Alcoholysis of N-alkoxy-N-chloro derivatives of urea, N′-arylureas, and carbamates in the presence of silver trifluoroacetate leads to sterically hindered N,N-dialkoxyureas, N,N-dialkoxy-N′-arylureas, and N,N-dialkoxycarbamates, respectively. © 2015 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc. The diversity of parasite assemblages in the Chinese sleeper Perccottus glenii, at the level of specimen and population of the host, is manifested through three components: the number of species, the evenness of their abundance, and the taxonomic diversity. Extensive studies have been undertaken to assess the influence of industrial and transport emissions on the contents and compositions of storage proteins in the seeds of tree species - acacia (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) and horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) - in the Dnepropetrovsk area. These investigations have shown that specificity and variability in the component compositions of proteins in the studied plant varieties as well as the alterations in the types of distribution of their electrophoretic spectra and frequencies of their occurrence depend on the levels and nature of pollution suffered by the urban environment. © Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 2014. According to the PCR-RFLP analysis of biological material, polymorphism in the population of Ukrainian meat breed pigs (the type of Dnepropetrovsk Agricultural Institute selection) was found at FUT1 and MUC4 loci, which determine the resistance of animals to colibacteriosis. The features of distribution of alleles and genotype for the loci in the general population among boars and sows in the herd and in the created inbred line were studied. The gene pool structure of the pig population of Dnepropetrovsk Agricultural Institute selection on polymorphic FUT1 and MUC4 loci was investigated. A distribution of alleles and genotypes among the families and the lines and levels of phylogenetic relationships of genealogical elements in population was also established. © 2014, Allerton Press, Inc.
