The problem of electromagnetic wave diffraction by a conducting rod has been solved using the integral equation technique. The diagram of backward scattering has been plotted. A wavelet packet decomposition of the obtained characteristic has been carried out. Based on the values of Shannon entropy for decomposition components we have constructed the feature vector. We have trained a neural network based on radial basis elements, which allows one to determine the position of a rod and its spatial orientation based on the feature vector. Numerical simulation and statistical analysis of the numerical results have been carried out. © 2015, Allerton Press, Inc. Source

Using the penetrating area technique we have considered the solution of three-dimensional diffraction problem for an infinite plane phased array antenna consisting of rectangular waveguides with location in the form of a triangular mesh in the presence of plane-layered dielectric filling. With a view to finding correlations between coke reactivity and the coal batch employed, methods of determining coke reactivity are considered-in particular, the standard and pulsed methods. The kinetic equation fundamental to all methods of assessing the coke reactivity from the gasification rate constant is presented. The first stage in the introduction of coal-dust technology has been completed at the blast furnaces at OAO Alchevskii Metallurgicheskii Kombinat, in response to the progressive deterioration in sinter quality and improvement in hot strength of the coke (to acceptable levels of CSR 47-51%).
