The present application provides a sample receiving device comprising a vial, a receptacle in communication with the vial for receiving the sample, and a cap comprising a pusher, the pusher for engaging with the sample in the receptacle. The receptacle comprises a disrupting means for disrupting the sample when the pusher engages with the sample in the receptacle and expels the disrupted sample into the vial. Typically, the device can be used for collecting fecal samples. A method of preserving a biomolecule in the device using a biomolecule preserving composition is also provided.

The present invention generally relates to a sample receiving device for releasably storing a substance. The sample receiving device includes a lid having a reservoir for retaining the substance, and a pierceable barrier sealing the substance within the reservoir; and b) a funnel for receiving a sample and configured for closure by the lid. The funnel is configured for releasable attachment to a sample receptacle such that a sample can be provided to the funnel and travel through the channel in the funnel into the sample receptacle. Further, the funnel includes one or more cutting ribs for cutting the pierceable barrier such that upon cutting of the pierceable barrier the substance is released from the reservoir, flows through the channel in the funnel and into the sample receptacle to be mixed with the sample. The present invention provides an aqueous composition and method for extracting nucleic acid from a sample of bodily fluid, such as saliva, such that the nucleic acid within said sample remains stable for at least fourteen days at room temperature. (NASDAQ:OSUR) today announced the settlement of litigation for patent infringement and breach of contract filed by its subsidiary, DNA Genotek, Inc. (“DNA Genotek”), against Ancestry.comDNA LLC (“Ancestry”) and Spectrum Solutions LLC (“Spectrum”), Ancestry’s contract manufacturer. Under a Settlement and License Agreement executed by the parties, Ancestry has agreed to pay DNA Genotek a settlement fee of $12.5 million. In addition, DNA Genotek has granted Ancestry a royalty-bearing, non-exclusive, worldwide license to certain patents and patent applications related to the collection of DNA in human saliva.
