We present the memory performance of devices with bistable electrical behavior based on polymer materials. We demonstrate that adding photosensitive particles to admixture allows us to control switching voltages and to observe photo-induced switching in addition to electrical one. From the properties of electrically-induced resistive switching and from the presence of light-induced switching we propose the necessity to consider crossover between to different switching mechanisms - filament formation and charge storage. © 2015 Materials Research Society. We describe a neutron source based on electron linear accelerator LUE-8-5 of the Institute for Nuclear Research and neutron-producing target consisting of tungsten bremsstrahlung converter and beryllium photoneutron target. The estimates performed show that for average electron current of 30 μA, using a W-converter with thickness of 3 - 5 mm and Be photoneutron target (~ 20 cm), the neutron yield will be ~ 3 - 5 · 1010 n/s. The use of polyethylene moderator around the Be-target will lead to the thermal neutron flux near the target ~ 108 - 109 n/(cm2 · s). Such a flux will ensure the metrological characteristics of neutron-activation determination of the content of most rare and precious metals. Source

A nonmonotonic variation of crystallite size in thermoelectric materials depending on spark plasma sintering (SPS) temperature was found in this work by using X-ray diffraction. The crystallite size grows with increasing temperature from 250 C to 400 C and decreases at temperatures from 400 C to 500 C. The transmission electron microscopy results suggest that the decrease in the average crystallite size is associated with an intense formation of fine grains at an SPS temperature of 450 C as a result of repeated recrystallisation. New grains in the structure precipitate faster than the old grains grow. The total density of the defects including the twins decreases. The initiation of new repeated recrystallisation centres occurs on the grain boundaries, on the dislocation defects and in the grain bulk, most likely on the subgrains. The pattern that has been discovered solves the problem of nano state preservation at elevated SPS temperatures. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. Source
