The behaviour of the Poisson's ratio is investigated on the basis of derived by the authors explicit equations determining the components of the compliance tensor in an arbitrarily rotated coordinate frame. Clear analytical expressions describing the angular dependencies of the auxetic properties have been found and the crystallographic regions possessing such auxetic behaviour have been revealed for single crystals of elemental metals. This was completed with the straightforward expressions for calculation of the maximum values of auxeticity. The connection between the auxetic properties and the level of anisotropy of single crystals as well as the Cauchy relation has been analysed for various metals with BCC and FCC lattices. © 2014 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.

We analyze the effect of parametric coupling of different frequency components at the stimulated Raman scattering threshold depending on the four-wave mixing phase mismatch and material dispersion. A fundamental difference is observed in the way parametric processes affect the generation of Stokes and anti-Stokes waves. We show that as a result of parametric coupling of Stokes components, their generation thresholds strongly decrease and come closer to each other because they originate from an intense parametric rather than a spontaneous seed radiation. The theoretical analysis refines and extends the commonly accepted concept of stimulated Raman scattering in nonlinear crystals and demonstrates good agreement with new experimental data. © 2010 Uspekhi Fizicheskikh Nauk, Russian Academy of Sciences.

Self-Q-switching of a loop laser cavity with a self-pumped four-wave phase-conjugate mirror in an active laser medium with the use of a Faraday isolator or a passive Q-switch is studied theoretically. It is found that, in contrast to passive Q-switching of an ordinary cavity, a passive Q-switch in a loop phase-conjugate cavity serves as an auxiliary unit that increases the self-Q-switching efficiency by gain gratings in the active laser medium, since it decreases the difference in the intensities of waves that write a phase-conjugate mirror in the active medium, which is similar to the use of a Faraday isolator. However, the passive Q-switch operates alternating the highly efficient writing of a phase-conjugate mirror in the closed state with the highly efficient generation of a giant laser pulse in the open state, which stabilizes the period of repetitive laser pulses. © 2015, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

A diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser operating with active-passive Q-switch mode locking, has been developed. The acousto-optic repetition train was one kilohertz with generated pulse train widths 65 ns, single pulse widths 200 ps and an average power of 6.5 W. This paper introduces a new atmospheric algorithm for a GNSS receiver. In the proposed algorithm, the speed of light is known in advance, it is a function of the altitude in inhomogeneous atmosphere. A new basic system of equations for navigation is proposed. It is the first algorithm for adequate calculation of the receiver positioning in spherically layered medium when the receiver receives signals from four or more sources. The implementation of the proposed algorithm promises significant increase in the positioning accuracy by means of the GNSS.

To achieve the goal of high accuracy, a number of innovative techniques have been developed, including interpolation and extrapolation for the differential mode of GNSS. The report describes the development of a linear extrapolation method for the differential mode of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System - GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and other). We describe and analyze several approaches. The simplest of them is used when the user is located in a work zone of four reference stations. In this case, the user processes differential correction by the scheme of extrapolation/interpolation of the navigational signals from the reference stations. The method of weighted least squares is applied in the case of a larger number of reference stations. Another approach is to create a complex of four or more reference receivers. One of them (central) is a reference station. Antenna phase centers are the vertices of pyramid. We present the results of computer simulation of various extrapolations for differential mode GNSS.
