Previous studies have shown microalbuminuria was associated with initial stroke with large-artery atherosclerosis (LAA) in diabetics. This study was aim to investigate relationship between stroke recurrence with LAA in diabetics and urinary protein to creatitine (Pro/Cr), which could monitor the extent of urine protein accurately. Data of Pro/Cr in 150 subjects from March 2010 to March 2011 were analysed. They were assigned to normal urine protein (NUP) group and microalbuminuria (MAU) group according to the level of Pro/Cr. The recurrence rates of stroke of 6 months, 1year and 2 years between two groups were compared, and the risk factors of stroke recurrence were analysed. The recurrence rates in MAU group were higher than that in NUPgroup at all 3 time-points(P<0.05). By logistic regressionlogistic analysed, hypertension (P=0.001), glycosylated hemoglobin (P=0.035) and microalbuminuria (P=0.004) are independent risk factors for stroke recurrence with LAA in diabetics. The higher urine Pro/Cr is, the more easily the recurrence of stroke happened. Microalbuminuria is an independent risk factor for recurrence of stroke with LAA in diabetics, which is related to Pro/Cr. Source
