The possibility of detecting extensive air showers by recording and analyzing the radio pulse produced by the reradiation of a wave moving toward the cascade disk is considered. The coherent amplification of the scattered radiation in the direction of motion of the shower is shown to be due to a relativistic effect. An example of a real facility and its peculiarities are discussed. © 2013 Pleiades Publishing, Inc.


The comparative data regarding the efficiency of desulphurization means of the catalytic Cu-Zn-Al-masses are obtained. They can be implemented under the conditions of existing catalytic productions. It is shown that the methods of hydrogen cleaning make it possible to achieve the required (<0.04% S) efficiency of cleaning of the sulfur and sodium impurities from the catalytic Cu-Zn-Al mass. The process of extraction from the catalyst solid phase to the sodium liquid phase is more intensive than extraction to the liquid phase of sulfur. It is established that the process of cleaning impurities is more efficient in the case of carbonate catalytic mass compared to the burnt one. Costs of hydrogen cleaning of sulfur compounds from carbonate mass are considerably lower than that of the burnt one. The dependence of efficiency cleaning of sulfur from the catalytic mass by means of precipitation on the process pH is determined. © 2010 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Conditions have been determined which exclude flame propagation in the processes and which employ reaction media within their explosiveness region. The possibility has been considered of using worked-out catalysts of carbon dioxide conversion STK-1 and catalyst of exhaust gases purification of nitrogen oxides APK-2 as flame arresters and fire quenching elements instead of an inert nozzle, which allow not only localizing the flame but quenching it as well. The equation has been obtained which relates the major parameters of the gas mixture, fluidized bed, and the kinetic characteristics of the catalytic oxidation reaction with flame propagation into the fluidized bed of the catalyst. The proposed model allows for determining the minimal height of the fluidized bed which provides flame quenching in the flame arrester or excludes its propagation in the reactor up to 700°C. © 2010 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Oxidation of toluene by ozone was studied in the system constituted by acetic and sulfuric acids in the presence of manganese(II) acetate and sodium bromide. The effect of sulfuric acid and the catalyst on the yield of benzoic acid and on the oxidation rate was considered. The optimal ozonization conditions were determined.
