YSZ/YSZ, Al2O3/YSZ, Al2O3/YSZ-Al2O3 and Al2O3/Al2O3 composite coatings, whose thickness was controllable in the range of dozens to hundreds of microns, had been prepared by thermal pressure and filtration of sol-gel paint (TPFSP) technique. The microstructure shows that the composite coatings are composed of YSZ and/or Al2O3 particles covered with spatial-network Al2O3 or YSZ. The results of high-temperature oxidation testing for the Al2O3/YSZ-Al2O3 composite coatings with proper content of YSZ particles perform high high-temperature oxidation resistance. In order to further analyze high-temperature oxidation resistance of the composite coatings through discussing diffusion behavior of oxygen in the composite coatings, corresponding simplified models are established based on their microstructure and high-temperature oxidation behavior.

The spatial-network Al2O3/YSZ- Al2O3 composite coatings, which were composed of YSZ particles covered with spatial-network Al2O3 blanket, were prepared by a modified composite sol-gel technology. In order to analyze high-temperature oxidation resistance of the composite coatings, an analogy model was established based on calculating electric resistance of composites to calculate diffusion resistance, defined in this study, of material, so as to quantitatively analyze behavior of oxygen diffusion in the coatings. The results show that the phenomena observed for the coatings during high-temperature cyclic oxidation can be explained reasonably by the analysis method based on the simplified model of the composition coatings.

A sol-gel technology was applied to seal anodic oxide films of 6063 aluminum alloy. The effect of sealing process on corrosion resistance of the anodic films was studied by electrochemical impedance spectroscope (EIS) and exfoliation corrosion, while the effect of sealing treatment on wear resistance of the anodic films was researched by a microhardness tester and a friction and wear tester. The results indicate that the solidified sol layers on surface of the anodic films are smooth and free-crack, and the corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the anodic films are improved significantly after sealing with ZrO2 or Al2O3 sol. Under the identical sealing process, Al2O3 sol has better sealing effect on improving corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the anodic film compared with ZrO2 sol.

Al2O3-ZrO2 multi-laminated coatings were prepared on stainless steel by a sol-gel method. The total thickness of the coatings, with smooth surface and uniform thickness, is about 150 nm after 8 cycles of dipping process and heat-treatment. The results of high-temperature oxidation test show that the Al2O3-ZrO2 multi-laminated coatings, which combine the merit of good match of thermal expansion between ceramic coating and metallic substrate for ZrO2 layer with the merit of low oxygen diffusivity for Al2O3 layer, perform better resistance to oxidation and scale spallation at high temperature than those pure Al2O3 or ZrO2 coatings. In addition, the mode of permutation and combination of Al2O3 and ZrO2 layers in the Al2O3-ZrO2 multi-laminated coatings also influence their high-temperature oxidation resistance. The thicker the thickness of oxygen diffusion barrier layers in Al2O3-ZrO2 multi-laminated coatings with the same number of Al2O3 and ZrO2 layers is, the better their high-temperature oxidation resistance is.
