An experiment was carried out to study the antibacterial sensitivity of various capsular types of Pasteurella multocida with the purpose of controlling and treating pasteurellosis in different species of animals in Himachal Pradesh. A total of 144 strains of Pasteurella multocida isolated from different species of 144 animals {cattle (44), buffaloes (49), sheep (6) goats (7), rabbits (29), poultry(8) and canine (1)}, from different parts of the State were subjected to drug sensitivity test using 30 different antimicrobials. A total of 27 isolates were of Capsular serotype A, while, 117 isolates were identified as Capsular serotype B. Capsular serotype A of Pasteurella multocida was found to be highly sensitive to cefriaxone, cefotaxime, chloramphenicol, enrofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, nitrofurantoin and norfloxacin, while capsular serotype B of Pasteurella multocida were mostly sensitive to the antimicrobial agents like ceftriaxone, cefotaxime, cephalexin, enrofloxacin, chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, nitrofurantoin and norfloxacin. Both Capsular type A and type B were found to be highly resistant to ceftiofur, cefuroxime, ampicillin, steptomycin, chlortetracycline and clotrimazole.

Physicochemical characterization of FAV-4 isolate recovered from natural outbreak of Hydropericardium syndrome in poultry in Himachal Pradesh was done. FAV-4 virus was inactivated at 56°C for 1 h, 60°C for 1 h, 80°C for 10 min and 100°C for 5 min. The virus was not found to be sensitive to the different pH ranges (pH 3 to pH 10) and lipolytic agents, viz. ether and chloroform.

Four varieties of tall fescue (Hima-1, Hima-4, Hima-5 and EC-178182) and three varieties of Setaria (PSS-1, S-20 and S-92) were analyzed for variation in chemical composition viz., dry matter, crude protein, neutral detergent fibre (NDF), acid detergent fibre (ADF), hemicellulose, oxalate content and in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) at different morpho-physiological stages and clipping intervals. In tall fescue the crude protein content (11.81%) and IVDMD (55.20%) were higher while NDF (63.65%), ADF (48.22%) and hemicellulose (15.46%) contents were low during early growth stages, however, the highest green fodder yield was observed during the month of July (73.23q/ha). In Setaria the crude protein content (10.92%) and IVDMD (62.34%) were high during early growth stages, but the same stages were also having high levels of oxalate (4.87%), which is one of the important anti-quality factor in Setaria associated with low milk production. With the advancing age there was decrease in the oxalate content in Setaria. The highest green forage yield in Setaria was observed during the month of August (100.51q/ha). The NDF, ADF and hemicellulose contents increased with the advancing stages. The results of the study revealed that to have balance among nutritive and anti-nutritive components Setaria should be harvested in the month of August and tall fescue in the month of March or April in mid hill Himalayan region.

Studies have been made on the use of zinc ferrocyanide and copper ferrocyanide gel membranes for estimating the concentraron of diquat (1,1′-ethylene - 2,2′-dipyridilum dibromide) in aqueous solution.
