In this paper, immunosensors based on a self-assembly modified (SAM) Au electrode for the specific detection of two illicit drugs, morphine (MO) and methamphetamine (MA), are reported. Using 3-mercaptopropionic acid SAM and activation by 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminoprophyl) carbodiimide (EDC)/n-hydroxysulfsuccinimide (NHS) with an adequate quantity of the antibody of MO or MA immobilized onto the surface to act as the sensing host, the sensors specifically respond to their respective target based on specific covalent bonding. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is used as the read-out signal. The value of the electron transfer resistance (Ret) responded to the concentration of drug in spiked blood samples with an ultra-low detection limit and satisfactory recovery. In conclusion, the developed sensors are demonstrated to be more advantageous compared to those previously reported in terms of sensitivity. © 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The male-specific, human Y-chromosomal short tandem repeats (Y-STRs) are very useful in forensic analysis and human evolution studies. The authors report two sexual crime cases in which the perpetrators were successfully traced using Y-haplotype screening of local patrilineages followed by autosomal STR typing. First, several main local patrilineages from local cases were investigated using Y-STR haplotyping, aimed to find the pedigrees whose haplotypes were identical or similar to those of the crime scene samples. Then, several key suspects were defined from the screened pedigrees, and autosomal STR typing was performed to identify the perpetrator of the crime. The application of Y-haplotype screening of local patrilineages followed by autosomal STR typing in these two cases demonstrates its usefulness for solving sexually related crimes in certain populations. © 2011 American Academy of Forensic Sciences.

A reliable and sensitive liquid chromatography-ion trap-time of flight tandem mass spectrometric assay (LCMS-IT-TOF) coupled with accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) was developed to identify and quantify six typical heterocyclic aromatic amines (HCAs), including 2-amino-3-methylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoline (IQ), 2-amino-3,4-dimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoline (MeIQ), 2-amino-3,8-dimethylimidazo[4,5-f]quinoxaline (MeIQx), 2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (PhIP), 2-amino-9H-pyrido[2,3-b]indole (AαC) and 2-amino-3-methyl-9H-pyrido[2,3-b]indole (MeAαC) in cooked meat products. The effects of various experimental factors on separation and detection were investigated, and the fragmentation patterns of six HCAs were discussed. The method has shown high reproducibility with intra-day and inter-day precision (RSD, %) less than 6.16% across three quality control levels for the six analytes. The assay was linear over the concentration range of 10 to 1000 μg L-1 for IQ, MeIQ and 5 to 500 μg L-1 for MeIQx, PhIP, AαC and MeAαC (r2 ≥ 0.996). The experimental results showed that the proposed method can be used successfully to identify and determine six typical HCAs at ultra-trace levels (μg kg-1) in cooked meat products. © 2015 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Objective: To analyze suicide scene, damage morphology and case investigation of mountain type scenic spot for giving the references to determine the nature of cliff suicide cases. Methods: The suicide cases collected from 2002 to 2012 in scenic spot of Mount Huangshan. The age, gender, native place, case location, damage inspection and behavior were analyzed. Results: In the 52 suicide cases, the suicide rate of male was higher than that of female. The numbers from other provinces were higher than that of local province. The age was mainly range from 19 to 50. The time of suicide cases mostly happened between 16:00 to 24:00. The major damage was compound injury with varying degrees of traumatic brain injury, organic injury of pleuroperitoneal cavity and surface bruise and scratch. Conclusion: In order to determine the nature of cliff suicide cases, it needs to work synthetically in the investigation of crime scene and interview. © 2015 by the Editorial Department of Journal of Forensic Medicine.
