Electrospinning is one of the techniques to produce non-woven fiber mats using polymers. The diameters of the fiber produced by this technique are in the range of 10 μm to 10 nm. Electrically conducting ultra fine fibers are useful in many applications in the fields of sensors, and nanoelectronics. However, it is very difficult to obtain fibers of conducting polymers like polyaniline (PANI) and polypyrrole through electrospinning. Hence they are invariably mixed with other insulating polymers such as polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) to obtain a conducting composite depending on the percolation of the conducting polymer. Here, we report the preparation of PANI-PMMA composite fibers by electrospinning. The scanning electron micrographs and the frequency dependent complex conductivity (σ*(ω)) of these polymer fibers are investigated at room temperature with different concentrations of PANI (5%, 10%, 15%, 20% w/w). It is observed that there is a significant enhancement in the ac conductivity of these fibers with the increase in the concentration of PANI.

The cast shadows on the background of the object or scene will definitely affect the recognition of the foreground objects. Due to this unavoidable problem, the performance of the successful object recognition, image analysis and object tracking algorithms would be degraded. An efficient shadow detection and removal algorithm is necessary to make the algorithms outperform in the analysis, recognition and tracking process. Using edge information we very well detect the cast shadows of the moving or static objects effectively. In this paper, we propose a method of moving shadow detection and the shadow removal algorithm to segment the shadow from the foreground. ©2010 IEEE.

2-Aminopyridinium trichloroacetate, a novel organic optical material has been synthesized and crystals were grown from aqueous solution employing the technique of controlled evaporation. 2-Aminopyridinium trichloroacetate crystallizes in monoclinic system with space group P21/c and the lattice parameters are a = 8.598(5) Å, b = 11.336(2) Å, c = 11.023(2) Å, β = 102.83(1)° and volume = 1047.5(3) 3. High-resolution X-ray diffraction measurements were performed to analyze the structural perfection of the grown crystals. Thermal analysis shows a sharp endothermic peak at 124 °C due to melting reaction of 2-aminopyridinium trichloroacetate. UV-vis-NIR studies reveal that 2-aminopyridinium trichloroacetate has UV cutoff wavelength at 354 nm. Dielectric studies show that dielectric constant and dielectric loss decreases with increasing frequency and finally it becomes almost a constant at higher frequencies for all temperatures. The negative nonlinear optical parameters of 2-aminopyridinium trichloroacetate were derived by the Z-scan technique. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

An organic material, nicotinium trifluoroacetate (NTF) was synthesized and single crystals in monoclinic system were grown from aqueous solution for the first time. Its solubility and metastable zone width were estimated. The crystal structure of NTF was analyzed to reveal the molecular arrangements and the formation of hydrogen bonds in the crystal. High-resolution X-ray diffraction rocking curve measurements were performed to analyze the structural perfection of the grown crystals. Functional groups in NTF were identified by Fourier transform infrared spectral analysis. Thermal behaviour and stability of NTF were studied by thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. Mechanical and dielectric properties of NTF crystals were analyzed. Optical studies reveal that NTF crystals are transparent in the wavelength range 286-1100 nm. The third order nonlinear optical parameters of NTF were derived by the Z-scan technique. © 2011 Elsevier B.V.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to show how to develop inhibition 57S aluminium in 2M NaOH solution. Design/methodology/approach: The approach is used to measure gravimetric and polarization measurements. Findings: The results of the paper clearly reveal that the 0.2 M ZnO with 700 ppm polyaniline in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone solution is found to offer inhibition up to 71.2 per cent. Originality/value: The paper deals with the development of newer inhibitor based on polyaniline. Gravimetric and galvanostatic methods were employed to evaluate inhibition efficiency. © Emerald Group Publishing Limited.

Clinically chemo-resistant types of cancers do not respond well to conventional therapies. To treat and enhance the efficacy of drug delivery for these cancers, we have developed an in vitro model of a combination therapy using adult human mesenchymal stem cells, electrical pulses and chemo drug. Adult Mesenchymal stem cells were used because they are similar to cancer stem cells which cause the tumor to be chemo- and radiation resistant. These cells, derived from human adult bone marrow were subjected to low voltage, long duration (200. V/cm, 40. ms and 450. V/cm, 25. ms) and high voltage, short duration (1200. V/cm, 100 μs) pulses. The effect of these voltages on the viability and proliferation ability of these cells in the presence and absence of Bleomycin (chemodrug used for treating various cancers, FDA approved in US and other respective medical agencies in other countries,) indicate the potential of transfer of this technique to clinical practice for effective electro-targeted stem cell therapy. © 2011 Elsevier B.V.
