A lid (110) is provided for attaching to the rim (118) of the open end (116) of a container (112). The lid includes a large content discharge opening (124) in a smooth spout (122) around which the lips of a user can form a seal. The lid further includes a small vent opening (128) between the lid and the container. The large opening in the smooth spout and the small vent opening between the lid and the container allow for unobstructed and rapid dispensing of the contents of the container, such as a liquid beverage, in a controlled and spill-free manner during consumption.

A colander (110) is provided that can be suspended on two adjacent and substantially orthogonal edges of a rim of a substantially rectangular sink to be used hands-free. The colander is suspended by two mounting flanges (112). The colander includes a base (114), sidewalls (116) that form a substantially triangular shape, and a lateral rim (118). The base includes perforations (120) for straining of liquids and three or more feet (122) for resting the colander stably on a horizontal surface. The lateral rim may contain the mounting flanges and one or more handles (126). Inner faces of the sidewalls of the colander and handle openings (128) in the handles include serving indicators (132) such that dry pasta noodles of varying types and dry spaghetti noodles, respectively, can be measured previous to being cooked/boiled.

Moisturized organic material is treated by communicating with a vacuum pump (44) to selectively reduce pressure within a vessel (12) below atmospheric pressure and to a vaporization point, such as at 30 to 17.8 C, for a period of time sufficient to create an internal pressure to rupture cell walls. While being subjected to vacuum below atmospheric pressure, the vessel (12) is rotated to homogenize the moisturized organic material. The organic material can be moisturized by non-potable water including moisture collected by a moisture collector (44b) in the conduit (44a) between the vessel (12) and the vacuum pump (44) and by chilled feed water acting as the seal fluid in the vacuum pump and heated while flowing through a heat exchanger (48) of the moisture collector (44b). Heat can be added by a heater (46) to raise the temperature of low ambient temperature moisturized organic material.

One aspect of this disclosure provides a tote that has first and second sidewalls that define the totes length and height and are laterally offset by the totes width. Third and fourth substantially planar sidewalls are coupled to the first and second sidewalls to form a frame. A plurality of parallel belt guides are located within an interior space of the tote and is coupled to the frame. A belt that has at least half the totes width is supported by the plurality of the belt guides and defines at least a portion of a ceiling of the tote. The belt is movable about the interior space of the tote, such that the aperture can be positioned within the tote in one of a plurality of positions.

A tote and method for automated packing of items and documents. In one embodiment, the tote includes: (1) a sidewall defining an interior having a tote height, (2) a divider coupled to the sidewall to define an item bin and a document transport slot in the interior, the divider having a divider height less than the tote height further to define and provide support for a document cradle over the item bin and the document transport slot and (3) a door coupled to the sidewall and moveable between a closed position in which the door forms a floor for only the item bin and an open position in which the floor is displaced to open the item bin.

An evacuated bottle system including providing a bottle defining a hollow interior, the bottle having a neck defining an opening that provides fluid communication with the interior; providing a cap assembly including a funnel having a first portion and a second portion, where the second portion extends radially outward from the first portion to form a floor on an interior thereof and a shoulder on an exterior thereof, the first portion defining a first bore and the second portion defining a second bore fluidly connected to the first bore; a self serum stopper having a self sealing membrane that extends radially outward to overlie at least a portion of the floor of the funnel; and a cap having a cap wall sized to fit over the funnel and a cover portion extending radially inward from the cap wall, the cover portion defining at least one evacuating opening; assembling the cap assembly with the bottle by inserting the first portion of the funnel into the neck of the bottle; supporting the funnel on the neck of the bottle at the shoulder; inserting the serum stopper within the funnel where the self-sealing membrane covers at least a portion of the floor to seal the first bore of the funnel from the second bore; applying the cap over the funnel and attaching the cap to the bottle, wherein the cover portion extends radially inward over a portion of the self-sealing membrane and defines a gap axially outward of the self-sealing membrane; applying a pressure differential relative to the interior of the bottle to create a suction at the evacuating opening to draw the self-sealing membrane axially outward within the gap a distance effective to provide fluid communication between the first bore of the funnel and the second bore the funnel; maintaining the suction until a selected pressure is achieved within the interior of the bottle; and withdrawing the suction, wherein the selected pressure within the bottle draws the self-sealing membrane against the floor of the funnel to reseal the interior of the bottle.
