A method of synthesizing catalyst self-doped ZnS nanostructures including preparing a silicon substrate by vacuum depositing a metal catalyst nanostructure on an ultrathin silicon oxide layer, doping a zinc sulfide (ZnS) nanostructure with a catalyst of the metal catalyst nanostructure including at least one of gold (Au), manganese (Mn), and tin (Sn), and modulating ZnS intrinsic defects by the concentration of the catalyst and the size of the ZnS and metal catalyst nanostructures, in which the catalyst is dissolved in a nanowire of the ZnS nanostructure during growth, the concentration of the catalyst in the nanowire is dependent on the size of the catalyst, and the doping is tuned by growth conditions.

Fairly soluble drugs in gastrointestinal (GI) media exhibit complete oral absorption, and thus good bioavailability. About 40% of drugs are not soluble in water in practice and therefore are slowly absorbed, which results in insufficient and uneven bioavailability and GI toxicity. Thus, most exigent phase of drug development practice particularly for oral dosage forms is the enhancement of drug solubility and thereby its oral bioavailability. Solubility, an important factor to achieve desired plasma level of drug for pharmacological response, is the phenomenon of dissolution of solid in liquid phase resulting in a homogenous system. This review describes various traditional and novel methodologies proposed for solubility enhancement of simvastatin, and ultimately improvement in its bioavailability. For simvastatin, solubility is a crucial rate limiting factor to achieve its desired level in systemic circulation for pharmacological response. Thus, problematic solubility of simvastatin is a main challenge for dosage form developing researchers. Various procedures, illustrated in this review, have been successfully employed to improve the simvastatin solubility for its bioavailability enhancement; however, successful improvement essentially depends on the assortment of technique. Among all the solubility enhancement techniques, solid dispersion method, in terms of ease and efficiency is most promising and routinely employed technique to resolve the solubility problems of simvastatin.

In this study, stochastic computational techniques are developed for the solution of boundary value problems (BVPs) of second order Pantograph functional differential equation (PFDE) using artificial neural networks(ANNs), simulated annealing (SA), pattern search (PS), genetic algorithms (GAs), active-set algorithm (ASA) and their hybrid combinations. The strength of ANNs is exploited to construct a model for PFDE by defining as unsupervised error to approximate the solution. The accuracy of the model is subjected to find the appropriate design parameters of the networks. These optimal weights of the networks are trained using SA, PS and GAs, used as a tool for viable global search, hybridized with ASA for rapid local convergence. The designed schemes are evaluated by solving a numbers of BVPs for the PFDE and comparing with standard results. The reliability and effectiveness of the proposed solvers are investigated through Monte-Carlo simulations and their statistical analysis. © 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A system and method for protection against loss of communication of a mobile node crossing a black spot region is disclosed. The system to prevent loss of communication with the mobile node consists of a mobile node, RF coverage map generator, black spot predictor, and a vertical handover process. The mobile node can experience uninterrupted communication across black spots. This is achieved by executing vertical handover before entering a black spot region, which is anticipated by using RF coverage maps and mobility pattern of the mobile node.

A method and device for heart murmur extraction and classification is disclosed. Data corresponding to a heart sound/signal is acquired from a patient through a data acquirer. The heart sound data is processed to isolate systole and diastole periods. Features to discriminate between the defects types associated with different heart murmurs are extracted, and the heart murmurs are detected and identified based on the extracted features using a fuzzy controller.
