The solid bed depth at the discharge end of rotary kilns was experimentally investigated for different mass flow rates, rotational speeds, inclination angles and materials using two lab kilns with sizes of 0.4 m (ID) * 5 m (L) and 0.25 m (ID) * 6.7 m (L), respectively. The solid depth at the discharge was found to be several more times higher than the particle diameter. All parameters according to Saeman's model were combined in a newly developed dimensionless 'Bed depth number' designated as 'Bd'. The filling degree of a solid bed at the discharge can be correlated with F 0 = 1.75 * Bd 0.5 (for an inclination angle between 1° and 4°). The range of the researched Bed depth number (Bd) is suitable for all industrial kilns. These values should be used as the initial condition, which was still unknown before, to solve the differential equation for the profile of the solid bed depth through the cylinder. © 2009.

This article presents a new post treatment process for improving the quality of b-plasters. The treatment process involves controlled water vapour treatment of gypsum supplied from an upstream calciner system in a continuous-operation fluidized bed reactor with forced internal recirculation. For the treatment process, a partial flow of the exhaust gas with high water vapour content from the calcining process is used as the fluidizing and recirculating gas, but gas from another available source or separately generated steam injected into the circulation pipe can also be employed. The two variants can also be combined. After an introductory fundamental consideration, the process - which can be intensified by increasing the reactor pressure - and the associated hardware are presented and discussed on the basis of the results achieved in systematic trials.

In 2006 Rusal UC started its new potline in the Khakas Region at the Sayanogorsk Smelter. For this new potline Rusal has chosen two - at that time - new innovative technologies for the alumina handling. The primary alumina is transported pneumatically via the unique and most efficient FLUIDCON conveying system with 135 t/h and 390 m distance from the receiving station to the storage silos. The secondary alumina is distributed via two Aerated Distribution Systems (ADS), each for 168 pots from the day silo to the individual cells based on fluidized aersolide conveyors. In this article these technologies are briefly described to show the uniqueness's and advantages. The main focus in the article is set on experienced operation and maintenance aspects during the first years of aluminum production and the corresponding measures taken. This paper concludes technical features presented on earlier TMS Annual Meetings [1, 2, 3, 5] and compares them with results from practice.

Claudius Peters decided to install the world's longest test line for pneumatic conveyance, stretching 5.1 km on the premises of the company's technical center. The basis for safe designing of every pneumatic conveying system involved precise knowledge of the material to be conveyed. Raw material analyses to determine the particle size distribution, bulk density, moisture content, and surface properties were indispensable and carried out in the Claudius Peters' raw materials laboratory prior to the plant engineering phase. The process technological designing of the system was carried out as the next step on the basis of the specified system parameters and the determined material data. Specially developed computing programs were used as assistance tools during this stage to perform the task. The entire conveying system including the dedusting equipment was rendered inert by means of external nitrogen evaporators, as this project involved the conveyance of coal dust.

An apparatus includes a feed chamber for feeding of material from storage bunkers and a lifting device for lifting the material to a high level. The lifting device includes a delivery end to which a transport line for conveying the material away to a remote delivery point can be connected, a pressure vessel having a vertical conveyor that begins in the feed chamber and ends in a top region of the pressure vessel, and a discharge pipe beginning in a bottom region of the pressure vessel and leading out of the pressure vessel. The apparatus also includes a pressurizing device which pressurizes the pressure vessel via a first valve and activates a conveying air nozzle of the discharge pipe via a second valve, and a controller for filling the pressure vessel via the vertical conveyor, fluidizing the material via the pressurizing device, and conveying the material away via the transport line.

A device for treating bulk material with a gas, the device including a grate through which gas can flow from an under-grate space to the upper side and which conveys a layer of bulk material in a conveying direction from a loading end to a discharge end. The grate has a plurality of mutually adjacent rows, each of which includes at least one bar that is elongate in the conveying direction and may be moved alternately back and forth in the conveying direction. Driving is controlled such that the forward stroke of the at least one bar of two adjacent rows takes place at the same time, while the rearward stroke of the at least one bar of two adjacent rows takes place at different times.

A device for humidifying a bulk material, particularly for humidifying power plant filter ash, comprises a downpipe. At the upper end of the downpipe, there is formed an inlet, through which the bulk material enters the downpipe, and at the lower end of which there is formed an outlet, through which the bulk material leaves in a humidified state. A plurality of water nozzles are arranged on a first plane in the downpipe and a plurality of water nozzles are arranged on a second plane in the downpipe. The water nozzles of the first plane are arranged offset at an angle to the water nozzles of the second plane. With the device and a corresponding method, the bulk material can be humidified effectively and deposits of the bulk material can be removed from the downpipe.

The invention relates to a process and to an installation (1) for the milling-drying and storage of brown coal. According to the invention, brown coal is milled to form brown coal dust in a low-oxygen atmosphere at temperatures which are higher compared to the prior art. Then, the brown coal dust is washed with low-oxygen, dry second conveying gas and stored in a silo in a low-oxygen, dry atmosphere at a temperature of above 60 C. The installation (1) according to the invention is designed to carry out the process according to the invention and comprises, for the process steps mentioned above, a mill (20), a dust washing installation (30) and a silo (40).

This article discusses the possibility of improving the utilization of waste heat from a clinker cooler for power generation by use of a g-cooler with upstream recuperator. The g-cooler is a moving bed reactor with indirect heat dissipation. Up to now, this cooler has always been operated with cooling air. With a view to achieving more efficient heat extraction, an analysis was carried out to assess the suitability of a g-cooler utilizing heat transfer oil as the coolant and evaluate the consequences.
