Design of gating system and selection of materials played an important role in filling and solidification process of low pressure casting aluminum alloy wheel. The roles of gate sleeve with different materials in gating system were described by comparatively analyzing effects of ceramic gate sleeve and conventional metal gate sleeve on processing stability. The results reveal that conventional metal gate sleeve possesses rapid corrosion behavior and high thermal conductivity, resulting in difficulty to adjust casting process with apparent fluctuation, meanwhile, it is significantly affected by environment and raw material temperature. Ceramic gate sleeve exhibits the features of high corrosion resistance and high insulating behavior as well as high temperature resistance, which can effectively make sure the temperature of feeding channel to ensure the feeding efficiency when the cooling rate of the other location of the wheel is increased, greatly improving the production efficiency. Meanwhile, quality of the aluminum alloy wheel is obviously improved as a result of smooth feeding channel. In addition, the rejected materials of the solidified riser is half of the conventional metal materials. Source

The melting loss of Sr element during the smelting process of Al-Si alloy was studied by comparatively analyzing the Sr content in the Al-Si alloy ingot, the liquid alloy in the melting furnace and the ladle, respectively. The results show that the Sr melting loss is great during smelting process of Al-Si alloy. The reason was analyzed and the effective countermeasures were put forward. Source
