AsteelFlash, an EMS Company has witnessed significant growth in its business over the years. Asteel acquired Flash Electronics in February 2008 and also purchased UK-based MRP Electronics that led to the tremendous growth in its sales. Lean manufacturing and design rules are uniform across the company and quality documentation also is instituted globally. The company's third factory in Tunisia is scheduled to come online by mid 2011 and will double the contract electronics manufacturer's capacity there to 390,000 sq. ft. The company also plans to add 1,500 workers, for a total of 2,500 by 2014. AsteelFlash is able to produce for companies with $10 million to $20 million in revenue. The company can take a project with three factories together in Europe, Asia and the US and work with only one team in front of the customer. AsteelFlash is expected to witness expansion in the future with the acquisitions in Mexico and on the East Coast in the US, in addition to other countries in Europe. Source

Several semiconductor companies displayed their innovative technologies at the PCB West trade show held in September 2010. One of the companies, National Instruments released an upgrade to its MultiSim and Ultiboard suite for design optimization, schematic capture and SPICE simulation. The new release will include upgrades to handle power components, simulation improvements, IPC land patterns, more user-defined functionality, and stronger encryption. SFM Technology introduced its PackageWright tool combining an online database of thousands of package models with footprint generation capability and an ECAD-MCAD library synchronization service. The tool supports flow from MCAD-ECAD and back. AcAe introduced its DART ECAD conversion tool that runs on Linux and Windows, verifies netlists and copper, and permits use of libraries and symbols. Mentor Graphics introduced its latest FloTherm thermal analysis tool, which helps designers identify thermal bottlenecks and shortcuts where new thermal paths would cool the design faster. Source

Apex 2010, North America's largest electronics manufacturing equipment show, displayed latest technologies in electronics. Juki displayed JX-100 placement machine, now inline, with the potential for small-volume and NPI. New were the JX-100 LED and FX-3XL, which places 60,000 cph. Assembléon offered a Twin Placement Robot for certain placement lines. The size of a feeder trolley and with two moving heads, TPR is designed to place DRAM and large modules. The company also now will sell its A5 placement machines and MCP printers in Asia. Siemens showed a novel changeable gantry whereby an existing Siplace SX line could be converted from or into a dual-gantry machine. Universal Instruments showcased six product lines, including surface mount, semiconductor assembly, insertion machine, final assembly and automation, operational services and feeders. DuPont, the materials giant showed a plethora of new materials, perhaps the most interesting of which was the CB500 removable conductive silver plating ink, a screen-printed ink for selective electroplating.
