The aim of this study is to optimize the long horizontal section of horizontal well section in extended-reach well. Extended-reach drilling technology has rapidly developed during the past three decades. It requires improved models and technology to extend to greater depth. Well profile design is one of the critical technologies for success in horizontal well because optimum well profile design is an effective means for reducing torque,drag and cost. This study presents long horizontal section of horizontal well section optimization design method based on the two buildup section well profile, and this method isanalyzed in detail. © Maxwell Scientific Organization, 2013.

Extended-reach drilling technology has rapidly developed during the past three decades. It requires improved new models and technology. This study has created a rapid optimum method to design the horizontal well drilling parameters. Genetic Algorithm is applied in this method to optimize the parameters such WOB, RPM. According to practical situation, the suitable fitness function and value of operators of GA are given and reasonable convergence delay-independent conditions are set. Based on the intelligence and global quick search of GA and the convergence of GA, the design parameters can be globally optimized quickly and accurately. An example is taken to prove that the application of GA in the field of drilling parameters is successful. This optimization method based on GA can provide guide for field design. © Maxwell Scientific Organization, 2013.

We have studied stress corrosion cracking for 20CrNiMo alloy in an acid environment. We determined the threshold stress intensity factor KISCC for stress corrosion cracking of this alloy. This factor was used to determine the critical crack dimensions of an elbow bend, and this value was used as a criterion for safe service life of an elbow bend in a pipeline. © 2014 Springer Science+Business Media New York.

The effect of stress concentration, arising from formation of pitting corrosion holes, on the strength and service life of a material is discussed. Formulas are derived for calculating the stress concentration factor in a plate containing a shallow round corrosion hole. A case study is presented showing the effect of the corrosion hole depth on the stress concentration factor and the burst pressure. © 2014 Springer Science+Business Media New York.

Coalbed methane refers to the gas absorbed in the coal matrix. We show the advantages of coalbed methane extraction by drilling multibranch horizontal wells compared with drilling vertical wells. We study the characteristics of methane seepage into multilateral wells. Theoretical principles are formulated for designing a coalbed development program and predicting the methane extraction dynamics. © 2014 Springer Science, Business Media New York.

Oily wastewater is waste originating from industries primarily engaged in refining crude oil and manufacturing fuels, lubricants and petrochemical intermediates. In this review, the characteristics and environmental impacts of oily wastewater were introduced. Methods for oily wastewater treatment were summarized based on recent literature and patents. We propose a model for predicting the response time of a production well responding to a change in pressure in the injection well while developing a low-permeability oil reservoir. The governing equation is derived based on a nonlinear seepage law and the method of successive substitution of steady states, and takes into account the anisotropy of the oil formation. We show that this model permits more accurate calculation than the conventional model. © 2016 Springer Science+Business Media New York
