Siemens VDO method is widely used in knock detection in gasoline engine. However, identification of knock event and evaluation of knock intensity strongly depend on the threshold of Knock Factor which is subjectively determined by experience. Research demonstrates that Knock Factor signal is random, and the signal gives a knock event in the relative way rather than the absolute way. Statistical knock diagnosis method based on distribution characteristic of Knock Factor sample was investigated by normality test such as the Lilliefors test and the D test. It is confirmed that the Knock Factor sample without knock event obeys the law of normal distribution, and the Knock Factor sample with knock event does not but can be normalized by step-by-step kicking out the peak individual of the Knock Factor sample until the sample satisfies the normality test. The kicked out individual can be identified as knock event. Statistical knock diagnosis method can avoid deciding subjectively the empirical threshold of Knock Factor, and is insensitive to the Knock Window width of Siemens VDO algorithm.

Blank holder force of box deep drawing is studied changes with time and displacement by DYNAFORM numerical simulation software. The results shows that, when the straight edge part of the blank holder force is constant, rounded part adopts small blank holder force can significantly improve the forming limit of box deep drawing, but the wrinkle is still evident. If the straight edge and rounded part of the blank holder force changes with time, not only deep drawing limit increase, wrinkles are also significantly reduced, indicating that the forming limit of the box shaped part is more effective on the blank holder force changes over time than with the position variation. © (2011) Trans Tech Publications.

Deformation of the flange in the deep drawing of box-shaped parts was studied. The forming of box-shaped parts was simulated through numerical simulation software DYNAFORM, and hardness of box-shaped parts was measured with a hardness tester. The results shows that, the sheet thickness near the midpoint of straight edge is more lager than near the corner, and flow stress is small, indicating that plastic deformation is not sufficient. Sheet thickness of box-shaped parts of large aspect ratio is relatively large, and sheet flow is difficult, which is not conducive to forming. In the experiment, the hardness of rounded corner part is significantly greater than two adjacent straight edges at the same height, which shows that material flow of the rounded corner part is good and hardening phenomenon is obvious, and the maximum hardness is near the entrance to the die corner. The flange deformation of box-shaped parts of the experimental and numerical simulation is the same. © 2011 Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

To achieve comprehensive indoor assessment of motorcycle frame fatigue reliability under impact of moving load on real roads, an acquisition method of road load spectrum based on a finite element analysis of a frame was established, and the collection and analysis of road load spectra were then completed. A multi-axial and multi-channel road simulation tests platform for motorcycle frame test was designed and built, based on the analysis of practical driving load of motorcycle frames, combining with the remote parametric control (RPC) technology and the American MTS hydraulic servo actuator and control system. An iterative method of simulating road load spectrum with force-displacement mixed control was put forward. Applying the collected road load spectra of motorcycle frames and adopting a loading control mode, mixing the force loading control and inertial loading control, the road load spectrum of motorcycle frames was efficiently and accurately simulated indoor. A multi-axial and multi-channel road simulation test method for motorcycle frames was established, an effective indoor method for fatigue reliability assessment of motorcycle frames was provided.

Motorcycle frame is the key load-bearing part of vehicle, its fatigue reliability, stiffness, strength, quality and other factors play a decisive role in vehicle's control stability and occupant comfort. New frame products must pass the reliability test before put into market. However, current frame fatigue reliability tests mainly use road test and testing ground test, which are time-energy consuming and the results are easily affected by environmental factors; Indoor bench tests at present mainly use single axial single incentive or single axial multi incentive mode. The motorcycle frame installation and constraints on the vehicle are very complex, the actual driving loads are complicated and changeable, thus multi-axial loads on motorcycle frame due to road excitation during actual driving could not be simulated or simulation precision is low, prone to over or under test. While the computer simulation technology development provides a new solution to dynamic performance analysis and fatigue reliability evaluation of vehicles and their parts, which including complete 3D entity model building online, creating a virtual laboratory, a virtual running environment and realizing virtual test and evaluation. For accurate and efficient analysis and evaluation of motorcycle frame fatigue reliability, a multi-axes road simulation test method for motorcycle frame based on time-frequency domain error weighting and force-displacement hybrid control was put forward. A motorcycle frame multi-axes road simulation test bench was built with American MTS road simulation test device, which was arranged with two actuator input channels in horizontal axial and vertical axial. As the motorcycle frame multi-axes road simulation test system is a multiple input multiple output system, the remote parameter matrix control strategy was applied to iterate and reproduce actual driving load spectrum. As the frame front fork and shock absorber were substituted by rigid frame fixture, in the horizontal direction, the frame dynamic response was more effective to the force loading, so the horizontal actuator used force control mode and loaded force spectrum. In the vertical direction, the system used inertial loading and frame dynamic response was more effective to displacement loading, so the vertical actuator was selected displacement control mode and loaded displacement spectrum. The motorcycle frame actual road load spectra were collected and multi-axes road simulation test bench was developed. With the simulation test bench, the multi-axes road simulation test was conducted based on force-displacement hybrid control under time and frequency domain with error weighting coefficient of 0.5. The simulation iteration precision of frame actual road load spectrum achieved 93%. Therefore the multi-axes road simulation excitation spectrum were extracted. The HYPERWORKS and ADAMS were applied in building the virtual rigid-flexible coupled multi-axes road simulation test platform with reference of the actual motorcycle frame multi-axes road simulation test system. Simulation analysis was conducted with the multi-axes road simulation excitation spectrum as input and the outcomes were verified by actual multi-axes road simulation test, thus the virtual test method for motorcycle frame based on multi-axes road simulation excitation spectrum were established. The results show that, the curve trend and amplitude of simulation results coincide well with test results in time and frequency domain, only slight amplitude deviation exists near frequency value 13 and 24 Hz, while the frequency curve RMS error is within 10%. Thus the virtual test method based on multi-axes road simulation excitation spectrum could be well applied to motorcycle frame fatigue reliability assessment.

Formability of the corner in the deep drawing of box-shaped parts was studied. The forming of box-shaped parts was simulated through numerical simulation software DYNAFORM from the different die radius size of shoulders and corners, the different BHF of straight and curved edges and different materials, etc. The results shows that, the forming limit height of box-shaped parts increases with the larger the die radius of shoulders and corners, and forming limit height of SS304 in the materials studied is the highest, because it has larger yield strength; If the BHF of straight and curved edges has the constant size, the forming limit height of box-shaped parts will be lower when the BHF increases, while forming limit has a clear upward trend as blank holder force increases in the deep drawing processes which accords with the change law of resistance during the dislocation movement. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Combining dimensional accuracy and tolerance standard at home and abroad, dimensional accuracy of die castings was analyzed. The change of castings dimension in mould and out mould as well as mould with temperature change was quantitatively analyzed. Through practical product, effects of some defects in the die castings, such as thermal deformation, contract and difficulty to push out, on dimension of the die castings were described, and countermeasures were presented.

A rider-motorcycle system model was established with the motorcycle dynamic analysis software BikeSim, the pitch angle under accelerating-braking condition and the ride comfort under grade B road stochastic excitation were simulated. The maximum pitch angle under accerating-braking condition and the pitching and vertical vibration acceleration RMS values under grade B road stochastic excitation were taken as optimization objectives, and the suspension property parameters as design variables, the parallel computing tasks were built using iSIGHT to drive BikeSim and MATLAB, the multi-objective optimization was performed for a motorcycle suspension system. A method to find the goal weights was proposed according to Pareto frontier, and the optimal solution was obtained. The optimal results showed that the maximum pitch angle under accelerating-braking condition decreases and the ride comfort under grade B road stochastic excitation is improved.

A dual-spark plug ignition system is assembled on a gasoline engine ignited by single-spark plug with homogeneous premixed combustion. By reconstructing electronic control fuel injection system, it is observed that the engine can be steadily operated in a mild homogeneous lean burn mode. To further investigate the effect of double-spark plug ignition on mild homogeneous lean combustion, three running states, dual-park plug with chemical equivalent ratio (λ=1), dual-spark plug with lean mixture (λ=1.1) and single-park plug with equivalent ratio (λ=1), are tested for character diagnosis of the combustion. The overall effect of in-cylinder combustion acceleration due to the double-spark plug ignition is mainly reflected in the early combustion stage of 10%-50% mass fraction burned; and the heat release together with the cyclic variation of the double-spark plug with lean mixture is superior to the single-spark plug with stoichiometric mixture obviously. And the effect of combustion process accelerating in the cylinder, cyclic variation rate reducing as well as the combustion stability improving are much more outstanding for the double-spark plug ignition, especially under the unstable combustion condition with lower load. Bench test also shows that the dual-spark plug lean burn mode enables to improve fuel economy by 3%-6% compared with single-spark plug stoichiometric mode in the lean burn operation area, and to reduce emission of deleterious substances.

A dual spark-plug ignition (DSI) combustion system is constructed based on the structure of gasoline engine JS183FMQ for a large-displacement all-terrain-motorcycle, and a numerical simulation is conducted on the process of fuel injection and mixture preparation in that DSI gasoline engine under both closing-valve and opening-valve injection modes. The results show that closing-valve injection mode can assure the full formation of homogeneous mixtures in cylinder; while opening-valve injection mode can generate stratified mixture to different extents. Further study on opening-valve injection indicates that a relatively ideal in-cylinder mildly stratified mixture can be generated by adjusting injection timing to directly inject some fuel into cylinder during valve opening phase and then inject the remainder into port during valve closing phase to form homogeneous mixture. The combined injection mode with the use of DSI and intensified swirl in cylinder make mildly stratified lean combustion feasible.
