Isocratic HPLC determination of plasma/serum homocysteine and cysteine with separation on reversed-phase column and UV detection at 330 nm is proposed. The mobile phase consist of acetonitrile - 0.05 M citrate-phosphate buffer with pH 2.4 - isopropanol (15:85:1, v/v/v). Full separation of cysteine, cysteamine (IS), glutathione and homocysteine was achieved within less than 10 minutes. Reduction of thiols from disulfides was performed by 1,4-dithioerithreitol, and derivatization by with Ellman's reagent [5′5-dithiobis-(2-nitrobenzoic acid)]. After that plasma/serum, containing derivatives of thiols, is cleared and concentrated on cartridge packed with 10 mg of hypercross-linked polystyrene (Purosep-200). Elution from cartridge is made with water-organic solvent (without evaporation and concentration, but without dilution), as well as waterless solvents (with evaporation and concentration). Simplicity, reproducibility in combination with high cleanliness of extracts and sufficient sensitivity (0.4 ng for homocysteine, 2 ng for glutathione and 0.2 ng for cysteine and cysteamine at a signal/noise ratio > 3), make this method suitable for routine clinical application.

Investigations were carried out on chicks of different age. It was found that the most pronounced changes in the morphology of the thymus occurred after neonatal hypophysectomy. These changes are least pronounced in old chicks. Peptides Lys-Glu-Asp-Gly and Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly synthesized on the basis of amino acid composition of peptide complexes of the anterior and posterior pituitary lobes administered to hypophysectomized birds regardless of age promoted recovery of the morphological structures of the thymus. The anterior pituitary peptide (Lys-Glu-Asp-Gly) had more pronounced effect on the recovery of thymic structure than posterior pituitary peptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly). © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media New York.

The superconducting quantum interferometer device with Josephson junctions (SQUID magnetometer) is used to study the temperature dependences of the magnetic susceptibility of (Bi 2-xSb x)Te 3 (0 < x < 1) alloy crystals in the temperature range 2 to 50 K, at the magnetic field vector H orientations H {pipe} C 3 and H ⊥ C 3 with respect to the crystal trigonal axis C 3. It is found that the magnetic susceptibility of the ion core of the samples under study is χ G = -0.35 × 10 -6 cm 3/g, the contribution of lattice defects to magnetic susceptibility can be disregarded, and the contribution of free carriers is of a diamagnetic nature in the entire studied temperature range. It is shown that the contribution of free carriers to the resulting magnetic susceptibility and its anisotropy can be described within the Pauli and Landau-Peierls approach. In calculating the magnetic susceptibility, taking into account the constant concentration of free carriers in the state of pronounced degeneracy, it is found that the temperature dependence of the anisotropic effective masses varies with crystal chemical composition. This is possibly associated with the complex structure of the valence band and its variation as the Sb 2Te 3 content in the alloy increases. © 2012 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

We discuss matters concerned with applying an integrated approach for optimizing the operation of modern heat supply systems on the basis of constructing interconnected models of heat consumers, heat networks, and heat supply sources together with carrying out experimental field studies of the real state of a system, and with correcting the distribution of flows and the set of equipment used at stations distributing heat to consumers. The possibility of using the inertia of cogeneration systems for periodically reducing the supply of heat from cogeneration stations during the hours of maximum electric loads is considered. The technical and economic effects from using this approach are determined. A circuit solution is proposed, the use of which will make it possible to obtain a considerable economic gain while retaining reliable and high-quality supply of heat to consumers. © 2010 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.
