Barium titanate (BaTiO3) is a typical positive temperature coefficient (PTC) ceramic which is closely associated with the state of grain boundary. In this work, Ba0.99Y0.01TiO3 powder was obtained by the solid-state reaction method and then trace amounts of Mn (0.09~0.19%) were added to promote the direct interaction with grain boundaries. The effects of trace Mn on crystal structure, microstructure, binding energy and PTC characteristics were investigated. It was found that excellent room-temperature resistivity, resistance jump ratio and Curie temperature of 136 Ω. cm, 105 and 145 °C, respectively, could be obtained for the 0.11% Mn-doped ceramics, possibly due to the grain boundary barrier induced by Mn. © 2017 National Institute of Optoelectronics. The space thick film fuse is now widely used in spacecraft to provide protection from overcurrent. Based on the typical highly reliable thick-film fuse FM12, this paper analyses the fusing mechanism of space fuse, the classical failure modes and causes are investigated and summarized; Implement limit assessment test to domestic typical thick-film fuse, verify the rationality of one of the failure mechanism analysis results. It provides an important reference value for optimizing fuses' design process and improving the product quality. © 2013 IEEE.

Utilizing a series of micro-fabrication processes for terahertz meta materials, we fabricated three geometries of split-ring resonators: a circular geometry and two elliptical geometries. The measured results showed that multiple resonant and the coupling among those resonant had played an important role on the overall response. For better matching TL-RLC model results with measured data, an improved model was introduced. Then the expression of the highest resonant frequencies in the improved model was introduced.

Using the finite difference time domain method, the electromagnetic field distribution of terahertz waves were simulated in different photonic band gap structures composed by one, two and three single-defect. The study showed the new phenomenon that L-type defects can drop three high-Q resonant frequencies in the monitor coordinates. So the single defect, double defects and L-shaped defects, respectively meet the requirements of single, double and triple frequency download-upload filtering.
