The newly isolated Pseudomonas sp. ZUTSKD was evaluated for its ability to degrade nicotine in tobacco waste extract (TWE). The strain degraded nicotine completely when the concentration of reducing sugar in TWE was lower than 8 g L-1. Yeast extract and phosphate additions improved nicotine degradation in 5% TWE. At 30 oC and pH 7.0, with additional 15 g L-1 Na2HPO4.6H2O and 6 g L-1 KH2PO4 in 5% TWE, Pseudomonas sp. ZUTSKD could degrade 97% of nicotine (1.6 g L-1) in 12 h. The data showed that strain ZUTSKD could be useful to control the nicotine content in TWE. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. Source

A new method for determination of phenoxy acid herbicide residues in tobacco based on the use of liquid extraction/partition and dispersive SPE followed by HPLC/electrospray ionization-MS/MS is reported. Formic acid (2%, v/v) in acetonitrile as the extraction solvent and inclusion of citrate buffer helped partitioning of all analytes into the acetonitrile phase. Quantitative analysis was done in the multiplereaction monitoring mode using two combinations of selected precursor ion and product ion transition for each compound. The recoveries obtained for each pesticide ranged between 85 and 110% at two spike concentration levels. Good linear relationships were observed, with the correlation coefficient (r2) >0.998 for all analytes. The method is simple, efficient, and sensitive, and each of its performance characteristics meets the requirements for determination of phenoxy acid herbicide residues in tobacco. © 2014 Publishing Technology. We developed a convenient method by coupling frontal elution paper chromatography with desorption corona beam ionization mass spectrometry (FEPC/DCBI-MS) for rapid analysis of powder samples. In this method, the powder was deposited directly onto a coarse strip near the base of a triangular paper sheet, and then a strong elution solvent was pipetted onto the base of the paper sheet in the open air for developing. The sample zone migrated at the solvent front under strong elution conditions. Target analytes were finally condensed at the V-shaped tip which was then placed under the visible plasma beam of DCBI for ionization. Steps of solvent extraction and developing were performed on a paper sheet simultaneously. The overall procedure requires less than two minutes. Signal intensities of target analytes were improved significantly due to analyte condensation at the tip and matrix effect reduction. Fundamentals and applications of FEPC/DCBI-MS were demonstrated by analysis of chlorphenamine in herbal medicines, clenbuterol in pig feed powder and nicotine in house-hold dust. The limits of detection ranged from 0.35 μg g-1 to 1.5 μg g-1 (0.52-2.2 ng, absolute) in full-scan positive-ion mode. The linear range was 5.0 μg g-1 to 5.0 × 102 μg g-1 with satisfactory linear coefficient (R2 = 0.885-0.956). Good reproducibility was achieved with relative standard deviations (RSDs) less than 20% and the recoveries ranged from 70 to 90%. The results demonstrate that the improved FEPC-DCBI-MS method is satisfactory for semi-quantitative evaluation of analytes in powder samples. © 2013 The Royal Society of Chemistry. Source

At present, most enterprises focus on introducing the batch management into supply chain and production. This study applies barcode and radio frequency identification (RFID) technologies as the means of batch management to improve the efficiency and effectiveness for managing the smallest unit of raw material and cigarette product information in supply chain, production, and sales management process. This paper discusses the business demand model, develop and implementation the batch management information system in a tobacco industry enterprise. The system based on Service-Oriented Architecture and using enterprise services bus (ESB) integration with enterprise other information systems to build a collaborative information platform. Platform will effective integration and correlation warehousing, logistics, production, quality, and sales information those distributed in all aspects of business and information systems, complete show the evolution process from the material to the entire product. Therefore, overall framework will help enhance the performance of the supply chain operations, and significantly improve the capability of production quality traceability and tracking in tobacco industry enterprise. © 2014 WIT Press.
