AH-130 base asphalt graded according to the upper limit of AC-16 close gradation is selected in this paper to identify the impact of asphalt mortar of different filler-bitumen ratios on asphalt mixture's road performance through small beam bending test at low temperature. And then bending failure energy, in substitute of bending strength, bending strain, is used to evaluate the anti-cracking performance of asphalt mixture at low temperature. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The aim of this study was to study the effect of curing period and cement content of the specimen on flexural strength and flexural modulus of elasticity of cement stabilized aggregate. Four specimen curing periods (7 d, 14 d, 28 d and 60 d) and four different cement contents (4%, 5%, 6% and 7%) were used. The results indicate that the flexural strength and flexural modulus of elasticity of cement stabilized aggregate are increasing with the increase of specimen curing period. Besides, with the increase of cement content, there is a tendency to increase both in the flexural strength and flexural modulus of elasticity of cement stabilized aggregate. The actual cement content should be chosen according to the actual condition of the project. © (2011) Trans Tech Publications.

This paper presents the analytical solutions for the bending of orthotropic rectangular thin plates by the double finite integral transform, which, as an effective tool in solving plate problems, should have received attention. As a representative and difficult problem in the theory of plates, free plates' bending is successfully solved to demonstrate the accuracy of the method by comparing the present analytical solutions with those from the literature as well as those by the finite element method. With the proper integral transform kernels, the proposed solution procedure is applicable to the bending of orthotropic rectangular plates with all combinations of simply supported, clamped and free boundary conditions, which serves as an elegant approach to analytical solutions of plate bending problems. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht.

The safety of existing bridges causes a universal concern of engineers and administrators. Traditionally, the vehicle load effect is determined according to the code in the absence of site informations. Recently, the installation of a WIM system enables a more accurate approach to estimate the vehicle load effect; however the "tail sensitivity" in a probalisitic model of vehicle load effects halters the application of WIM data. To overcome this problem, an improved GPD model is proposed in this paper to fit the tail distribution of the load effect based on the recorded WIM data. Firslty, the GPD formula was altered to fit the characteristics of vehile flow; then parameters of a GPD model was determined according to the Minimum Squre root of an Error (MSE) principle, and further modified for the case of "cut tail". Using the proposed model, the on-site vehicle data were analyzed and the extreme load effect was estimated, and compared with the code result further, demonstrating that the proposed method is accurate in estimating extreme traffic load effects for a longer period, while the code method may underestimate the extreme value when applied to a medium period or shorter.
