Porosity is the basic parameters for reservoir evaluation, NMR logging is an effective method for determining reservoir porosity. However, it is found that there is a difference between the NMR measurements and the routine measurements for shale porosity in the experiments. The shale's porosity in NMR measurements is relatively higher than in the routine measurements. The author analyzed this discrepancy, and thought that NMR signals created by interlayer water of smectite in clay minerals which could contribute to the porosity. Then the author correct the NMR signal generated by interlayer water, which could make the results of NMR porosity more realistic law, and provide an experimental fundamental rules for correctly using NMR logging for reservoir evaluation. © 2015 ejge.
