Sequence polymorphisms of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) are valuable in forensic medicine and anthropological genetics.We investigated the mtDNA control region sequences in 295 unrelated individuals living in the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in the Peoples Republic of China.DNA was extracted from blood stained filter papers. Hypervariable regions of the mtDNA control region (HVI and HVII) were amplified and sequenced. The resulting sequences were aligned and compared with the revised Cambridge reference sequence (rCRS).A total of 182 variations were confirmed. Population comparison showed the significant difference between Yanbian Korean and other included populations.These results provide useful data for human genetic studies and forensic examinations and demonstrate that the Yanbian Korean population is an endogamous Northeast Asian group.

Ionic interactions have been investigated from isopiestic measurements on 3-1 rare earth electrolyte quaternary systems H2O-Er(NO 3)3-La(NO3)3-Y(NO3) 3, H2O-Er(NO3)3-Pr(NO 3)3-Y(NO3)3, and H 2O-Er(NO3)3-Nd(NO3) 3-Y(NO3)3 and their ternary subsystems H 2O-Er(NO3)3-La(NO3)3, H2O-Er(NO3)3-Pr(NO3)3, H2O-Er(NO3)3-Nd(NO3)3, and H2O-Er(NO3)3-Y(NO3)3 at 298.15 K to near saturation. The isopiestic measurements can be represented by a modified Pitzer ion-interaction model extending to C(3) within the experimental uncertainty over a full concentration range. In addition, the Zdanovskii-Stokes-Robinson model or partial ideal solution model is obeyed by all systems within isopiestic accuracy, indicating zero exchange energy between the unlike salts, which is consistent with the nature of rare earth elements. © 2011 American Chemical Society.

This article uses Footscan plantar pressure analysis measuring system to study plantar pressure distribution. After comparing various index parameters of plantar mechanics characteristics of human body's lower limbs in different walking postures, the result indicates that: different walking movements of lower limbs have certain influence on plantar pressure distribution, which results in sharp differences of regional mechanics characteristics. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

It is frequently encountered to identify the time of bone fracture in forensic medicine. Hence it is important to develop the methods for evaluating the time of bone fracture. This article reviews the applications and values of the methods such as ultrasonic evaluation, impulse measurement, digital imaging technology and bone mineral density testing technology, etc. It is proposed that to use these methods jointly may provide more scientific evidence in determine the time of bone fracture.

In this paper, content-based image retrieval method is applied to develop a system for automatic retrieval of questioned shoeprint images from a reference database of shoeprint images. The organizational structure, functional features, shoeprint query of the system and its application to footwear impression examination and identification is introduced in more detail. Comparison experiment is made to demonstrate its ability of retrieving similar images and identifying shoeprints. Experimental results show that the retrieval speed and performance of the system are satisfying. © 2010 IEEE.

This paper based on Abbe-Porter spatial filtering experiment method, extracted and studied the sweat in the surface of transparent chip and CD, and compared with the traditional optical method. The results of the experiment show using the optical filtering method can obtain desired results. Compared with chemical reagents appear method, Abbe-Porter spatial filtering experiment method belongs to nondestructive test method. © 2010 SPIE.

To study the walking law and various plantar mechanical characteristic parameters at different walking speed. Based on gait analytic technique and footmark test theory, and through advanced Footscan plantar pressure analytic measuring system, main gait and various plantar mechanical characteristics parameters were measured and statistically analyzed at different walking speed in different people. At different walking speeds, plantar pressure distribution changed to a certain extent, and regional mechanical characteristics varied significantly. The relation of various gait parameters to walking exercise and footmark characteristics could be analyzed to provide scientific quantitative basis and index for footmark analysis and personal identification. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.

To fully analyze and study the dependency relation between the width of sole region of barefoot print and body weight and its changing law. To collect lots of samples of barefoot print of persons of highly frequent ages in the criminal cases in different areas, to measure their width of sole region one by one, to create the database, and utilize the computer to make comprehensive statistics, regression analysis and comparative research. Obtain a mass of analytical data and regression equation. There is a obvious dependency relation between the width of sole of barefoot print and the body weight, and the body weight of a person who leaves traces can be analyzed according to his/her width of sole of barefoot print. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.

This paper, by using German Simi Motion walking motion system, quantitatively describes the parameters and indicators of the human gait characteristics, tracks and captures the characteristics of body movement and motions of articulation points, compares the gait characteristics between different people, conclude significant differences between walking gait characteristics corresponding to different leg heights and knee bending angles through a large number of experiments, and finds out a description of stability and diversity under different human gait characteristics. This study extends the range and ideas of biological personal identification technology research, so as to provide a more scientific description of gait characteristics, so this study sets a basis for personal identification and establishing identity by using gait characteristics. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
