The polyethylene/collagen based composites with good mechanical properties were prepared by using dicumyl peroxide as initiator, ethylene acrylic acid copolymer (EAA) and polyethylene-graft-maleic anhydride (PE-g-MAH) as compatibilizer, respectively. The influence of preparation process, the amount of compatibilizer, and the amount of collagen on the composite properties were studied in details. The results show that: (1) The process of reactive compatibilization by using twin screw extrusion is better than others; (2) The polyethylene/collagen composites reach the optimal mechanical properties when the PE-g-MAH was used as compatibilizer and the weight ratio of PE/collagen/ PE-g-MAH is 100:15:15, the elongation, tensile strength and impact strength are 88.6%, 12.5 MPa and 26.7 kJ·m-2, respectively; (3) The polyethylene/collagen composites reach the optimal mechanical properties when the EAA was used as compatibilizer and the weight ratio of PE/collagen/EAA is 100:15:20, the elongation, tensile strength and impact strength are 90.5%, 11.8 MPa and 21.5 kJ·m-2, respectively. It was observed that cellulase has a promiscuous ability of catalyzing Aldol reactions in the organic media. Six cellulases were screened according to their abilities of catalyzing the Aldol reaction between benzaldehyde and acetone. It was found that the enzyme of Cellulase from Trichoderma viride has the highest catalytic activity with using DMSO as the solvent, while using the denatured enzyme or the control experiment (in the absence of enzyme) demonstrates that no product of Aldol reaction can be detected. These results show that cellulase can catalyze Aldol reactions and also indicate that the enzymatic tertiary structure plays a critical role. The influence factors including solvents, temperature, water concent and enzyme concentration were optimized. When the Aldol reaction was conducted at 50°C for 24 h under 15% water content and 10 mg·mL-1 enzyme concentration, the yield of 85% can be achieved. This paper studies the Aldol reaction between aromatic aldehydes and acetone. It was found that cellulase has a good adaptability for different substrates of the Aldol reaction and can produce high yield. The mechanism of the Aldol reaction catalyzed by cellulase was also proposed. Source

The solubilities of biotin in water, methanol, ethanol, acetic acid, dimethylformamide (DMF), and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) were measured at temperatures ranging from 298.15 K to 333.85 K (p = 0.1 MPa) by the synthetic method with a laser monitoring dynamic technique. The mole fraction solubilities of biotin were observed to be highest in DMSO, and be lowest in water. The experimental data were well-correlated with the modified Apelblat equation, van't Hoff equation, and λh equation, in which the correlation coefficients (R2) were noted in the range of 0.997 to 1.000 and the root-mean-square deviations (rmsd) were less than 2.82 %. Thermodynamic studies showed that dissolution of biotin was an endothermic and spontaneous process in all selected solvents. © 2014 American Chemical Society. Source
