This paper puts forward a corresponding value engineering analysis model using the theory of value engineering and analytic hierarchy process (AHP), and the research of project management optimization technology based on the actual case of a high-rise building. Based on the model, we evaluate its function and cost and deduce the corresponding model parameters. A multi-objective optimization of management goals is used to achieve safety and quality during the period of construction and cost. In the end - through theory, analysis and practice - the high-rise buildings (based on value engineering optimization analysis model, and through multiple successful cases) verify its effectiveness. © 2014 American Society of Civil Engineers.

With fast development of modern science and technology, the informatization level of all industries is continuously improving. The building industry, a traditional kind of industry, increasingly applies the informatization method to reinforce management and improve economic performance. The BIM technique, a new carrier of project information, runs through all stages of the construction process throughout the life cycle of a project, rendering all project participants to obtain proper information at due time as necessary. It assists project understanding, reduces common mistakes and supports project-related decisions. The BIM technique application features distinct characteristics and boasts the advantages of visualization, parameterization, simulation and collaboration. In this paper, the functions of the BIM technique applied to project management are introduced in conjunction with relevant experiences of BIM pilot projects, as summarized by China Construction Fourth Engineering Division Corp. Ltd. The value and prospect of BIM application to the construction field at the present stage is analyzed. © 2014 American Society of Civil Engineers.

In this paper, development of the general contracting management of an EPC project in China is briefly introduced. Realization of standardization, elaboration and informatization management in every stage of the EPC project (namely engineering, procurement and construction on the basis of project quality assured and cost saved) is probed in conjunction with practical management experiences in previous EPC projects (such as Zunyi Xinye Dongcheng, Huainan China Construction Building, Ningbo Logistics Distribution Center, and Foshan Sino German Industrial Services Zone) so as to achieve quality and efficient management of the EPC project. © 2014 American Society of Civil Engineers.

At present ballastless track has been widely applied to railway line for passenger in our country, therefore it has broad prospect. Cracks in ballastless track slabs are inevitable in the construction and operation of high-speed railway. Based on comprehensive investigation of documents, and taking cracks in ballastless track slabs as the main object, systematic and deep research has been done within this paper. The main research contents are as follows: First of all, the structure characteristics of CRTSIII ballastless track in high-speed railway are briefly introduced; Secondly, the paper mostly introduces the impacts what cracks make, the characteristics of cracks and how they form. This paper briefly introduces the concept of BIM5D technology and its application status of Chinese construction industry, which is in association with the practical general contracting management experience concerning with more than 20 BIM demonstration construction projects encompassing Guangzhou Chow Tai Fook Finance Center (Guangzhou East Tower), Guangzhou Zhujiang Newtown J2-5 parcel office buildings, Guiyang Zhongtian Weilaifangzhou (Future Ark), and Dongguan Vanke Residential Industrialization Base that are under our firm's construction. Specifically, the paper discusses the guiding function of BIM application based on Glodon BIM5D platform encompassing collision check, deepening design, drawing management, engineering quantity calculation, simulation scheme, schedule management, and cost management over general contracting management. Also, some suggestions have been given for future BIM application. © 2015 ASCE.

More and more attention has paid to the greenhouse gas around the world. It has been a problem for each country to reduce the carbon emissions, so it is with China. Carbon emissions in building products accounts for a large share in the whole emissions from all aspects. Therefore, the building industry is reckoned highly energy consuming. It is significant to calculate the carbon emissions of buildings to find solutions. This paper establish a calculate model, which is also applied in a case study in local, to calculate the carbon emissions of buildings in the whole life cycle, including material preparation, construction installation, operation, and abandonment phase. Hence, the result of this study can be of reference on the reduction measures taken in different stages in the life cycle. © 2015 ASCE.

Deformation prediction is one of the core contents in the design of the gravity retaining walls in Shanghai soft soil. Geotechnical design engineers used to rely on numerical analysis and beam on elastic foundation analysis to calculate the lateral displacement of a gravity retaining wall. However, both methods are too complicated to be used and they are not suitable for engineers. In this paper, the lateral displacement function of a gravity retaining wall was normalized through four excavations in Shanghai. The simplified formula of lateral displacement of a gravity retaining wall was derived through the principle of minimum potential energy. The simplified calculation method of horizontal deformation of a gravity retaining wall was verified by ten case histories in Shanghai. © 2014 American Society of Civil Engineers.
