Crumb rubber mortar, modified with suitable particles from worn automobile tires, enjoys a promising prospect in applications. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of the research progress of cement mortar containing crumb rubber on its performance, the workability of mortar reduces, the compressive and tensile strength decrease proportionally to the amount of rubber included, the dynamic modulus of elasticity diminishes and the mortar toughness increases, the durability improves, and especially the thermal conductivity of mortar reduces while the thermal insulation capacity enhances, which provides crumb rubber mortar with the potential application value as thermal insulation mortar. © 2016 Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
