The reduction behavior of zinc ferrite, an important constituent of zinc-bearing metallurgical dust, with CO-CO2 gas was calculated and analyzed according to the thermodynamic principles. The reduction of ZnFe2O4 obeys a stepwise mechanism. ZnFe2O4 is easy to be reduced to ZnO and Fe3O4. ZnO is easier to be reduced than FeO, and a lower volume fraction of CO gas is needed to reduce ZnO at a higher temperature. If the reaction temperature increases from 1100 K to 1400 K, the reducing potential expressed by the volume fraction of CO decreases from 0.4 to 0.01. Aiming to the reduction and separation of metallic zinc from zinc-bearing dust, it is not necessary to reduce iron oxides to metallic iron, but Fe3O4 or FeO, while zinc oxide should be reduced to metallic zinc. In the upper of the blast furnace, zinc reduction and internal circulation occur and bring harms to blast furnace production, and therefore the zinc load of the blast furnace should be reduced and controlled strictly. ©, 2015 All right reserved. The two-parameter estimating model was proposed, which can estimate standard entropy of typical ionic compounds. The ionic compounds were composed by alkali metals, alkaline-earth metals with oxygen and halogen family elements. Estimating parameters of totally 17 kinds of elements were given by multiple linear regression. The average error is 2. 473 J · mol -1 · K -1, and the standard deviation is 3. 274 J · mol -1 · K -1 when standard entropy are estimated by means of the two-parameter estimating model. This estimating model has high precision and estimating errors of it are concentrative in normal distribution. The two-parameter estimating model is better than any other methods such as Latimer model and Kier-Hall model. Source

The oxidation reaction of molybdenum and reduction reaction of molybdenum trioxide were discussed, and the effect of the addition of molybdenum oxide on AOD process and the component of liquid steel was also investigated. The subsequent research was focused on the volatilization of molybdenum oxide which had a serious impact on the recovery of molybdenum. Finally, thermodynamic analysis of "decarburization and molybdenum conservation" and "decarburization and chromium conservation" was accomplished. The direct alloying of molybdenum oxide in AOD is completely feasible, additional reducing agent and fixative agent, however, should be added to AOD, together with molybdenum oxide for higher recovery of molybdenum and better stainless steel. An activity-calculating model, intended to calculate the activity of the component of the CaO-FeO-SiO2-Cr2O3-MoO 3 stainless steel slag system, was constructed. In company with related thermodynamic data, the model was used to analysis the reducing reaction of molybdenum trioxide. It is known from the result that molybdenum oxide can be easily reduced and the distribution ratio of molybdenum element between the slag and melt is less than 1× 10-3, implying that molyoxide is completely competent for the stainless making process, but the chromium may be partly oxidized during this process. The partial pressure of CO, therefore, should be kept at less than 0. 03 to decrease the oxidation of chromium. Source

Based on coexistence theory, a activity model on six components slag system of stainless steel slag was built. And the activity of each components of the slag system, such as CaO, MgO, FeO, SiO2, A12O3 and Cr2O3, can be calculated in different conditions. The results show that Cr2 O3 is mainly formed into CaCr 2 O4, which is unstable and can be oxidized to acid-soluble calcium chromate, the CaCrO4. It can release Cr 6+ with strong toxicity. So stainless steel slag has potential toxicity. Temperture, basicity, MgO and FeO are all have influence on stable detoxification of the slag by promoting Cr2O3 into spinel phase. Via adjusting composition and processing conditions, the goal of non-polluted can be reached. Source
