The research progresses of measurement methods and the database development of road spectrum and road roughness in recent years in China were reviewed. A new high precision road spectrum measurement system was presented and its measurement principle and testing method were introduced. Based on the measurement system, a new typical road spectrum database was built, its development included many steps, such as, typical cities and typical roads selected, typical roads surface data acquired in the whole country, massive original data automatically processed, the overall framework of the database established, and the road spectrum database realization and maintenance. In addition, the application of the road spectrum database in automobile engineering and highway was discussed. In the end, the application and dissemination of the road spectrum database were summarized and its prospect was evaluated.

The four-channel MTS road simulation system and the principle of its core algorithm RPC were presented, the device was used to verify the feasibility of doing a vehicle endurance test with a road profile input to the rig from two aspects, on the one hand, the road profile was reproduced in the road simulation bench test; on the other hand the road load spectrum was input into the rig test of a road simulation device with four columns. The results showed that the road profile can be accurately reproduced, the road load spectrum as the expected response can be simulated with the vehicle endurance test rig exactly.

The research progresses in measurement methods of road surface profile in recent years were reveiewed. A new high precision road surface profile measurement system was presented and its measurement principle and testing method were introduced. On this basis, the methods for true profiles measurement of road surface were discussed. A number of contrastive tests were carried out to analyse the measurement error of the method with Level and Ruler in mountains, plains, cities and the areas of GPS signals were blocked. Finally, the measurement methods of the road surface profiles were summarized. Its application field was described and the merits and drawbacks of the road surface profile measurement system were evaluated.

The traditional ways based on the statistical method are hard to analyze multi-affect mutually on car's running fuel consumptions under the complicated road conditions. This paper introduced the Grey-system theory into research of multi-affecting factors in car fuel consumptions, analyzed the series factors of the vehicle mass, displacement of engine, the energy-saving techniques when car was running under complicated road conditions and sequencing the order of dominance about them, which was academically valuable. Tested by theory and laboratory experimental analysis, the way put forward is practical and provides an effective measure for the optimization of car fuel consumption under complicated road conditions.

It's reviewed that the research progresses of the measurement methods of road profile and road surface spectrum in recent years. A new measurement method of road profile is presented and a high precision road surface profile measurement system (RSPMS) is developed. The measurement principle and testing method of RSPMS are introduced. Based on the measurement device, these are many contrastive tests are completed with Level and Ruler to get the measurement precision of the RSPMS. The contrastive tests consisted mostly of small wavelength signals and large wavelength signals and got better results. Another, the applications of the road profile data are discussed. In the end, the merits and drawbacks of the measurement method are evaluated and the using fields of the road profile data are summarized.

It's reviewed that the measurement methods of road surface profile and the influence of signal trend extraction of road surface profile in engineering application. The methods of signal trend extraction are analyzed and compared in recent years. The empirical mode decomposition is selected as the method of extracting signal trend in road surface profile. The decomposition process and detailed algorithm of empirical mode decomposition are introduced. Based on the decomposition and reconstruction processes of empirical mode decomposition, there is an example of road surface data which is acquired on actual road. In the example, the process of empirical mode decomposition and the result of intrinsic mode function extracted are demonstrated. The analysis and comparison results show that the method of empirical mode decomposition is simple and has obvious effect in signal trend extraction. The method of signal trend extraction can be widely applied to road surface data processing. © 2010 IEEE.
