Based on the summary of usual handling stability research methods, a new kind of simulation and evaluation technology for wheeled Self-Propelled Gun based on virtual prototype and actual equipment test was put forward. In MSC. ADAMS/Car environment, virtual prototypes of suspension, tire, steering, engine, transmission subsystems and wheeled Self-Propelled gun were established. Actual equipment test and simulation based on virtual prototype of invariable radius turning test were carried out. The creditability and accuracy of virtual prototype were verified by comparing the simulation results and the test data. Steady turning characteristics were taken as example to illustrate the handling stability simulation and evaluation process based on virtual prototype. © 2015, The Editorial Board of Journal of System Simulation.
