This paper introduced how to use the data mining tools IDA to, based on supervised learning rules, mine the data sets on mental health of college students and help us to discover useful information from three profiles: how to deal with the interpersonal relationship, attitudes on life values and how to evaluate university life. This kind of study found some common states and problem among college students. This kind of study help instructors to research measures about how to teach and assist students and find better methods to guide students so that they live a better life and have better careers. © 2014 IEEE.

The feature of the proposed computer assisted test system is to apply data mining technology to computer test analysis and intelligentizing it. It can help teachers analyze how well students understand the knowledge points in assignments and exams. It can also visualize the test points of each questions and error rates. The results obtained by the system can tell teachers which parts of teaching activities should be enhanced and how to allocate the teaching time for each section. Such system will help teachers to emphasize important points, find difficulty in understanding and reconstruct a new way for students to follow. © 2014 IEEE.

In the present study, the persistent efficacy of selamectin (SEL) in Angora rabbits infested with Haemaphysalis concinna was observed. SEL (6 mg/kg) was administered to rabbits with a single topical application. Eighteen Angora rabbits were randomly allocated to three groups of six rabbits each. At days 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 following SEL administration, rabbits were inoculated with larval, nymphal, and adult ticks and were then observed for a period of 7 days. The cumulative reduction rates at days 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29 for dead ticks were 100%, 100%, 100%, 95.0%, and 76.7%, respectively, for larvae; 100%, 100%, 100%, 85.0%, and 65.0%, respectively, for nymphs; and 100%, 95.0%, 85.0%, 60.0%, and 45.0%, respectively, for adults. The cumulative reduction rates for larvae in untreated Angora rabbits (controls) were 3.3%, 1.7%, 3.3%, 5.0%, and 5.0%, respectively. There was no reduction of nymphs and adults in untreated Angora rabbits (controls). The reduction rates for larvae, nymphs, and adults were significantly higher for Angora rabbits inoculated with SEL than the controls (P<0.001). © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

Six new (A5-A6, A8-A11) and six known (A1-A4, A7, PO) α-pyrone compounds were synthesized with dehydroacetate and aldehydes in tetrahydrofuran at room temperature. And their structures were determined by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and mass spectroscopy. In the bioscreening experiments, ten compounds (A1-A5, PO, A7-A10) exhibited antibacterial activities against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of 4-512 mg/L, and nine compounds (A1-A5, PO, A7-A8, A10) exhibited antibacterial activities against Methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) ATCC 43300 with MIC values of 4-256 mg/L. Moreover, compound A10 showed the highest antibacterial activity against S. aureus ATCC 25923 and MRSA with MIC values of 4 mg/L, while the MIC values of Amoxicillin were 8 mg/L and > 256 mg/L, respectively. Two compounds (A8 and PO) exhibited antibacterial activities against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 with MIC values of 32-512 mg/L. However, only one compound (A8) exhibited significant antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa CVCC 3360 with MIC value of 256 mg/L. Moreover, A10 exhibited significant inhibition of proliferation in the four cell lines MCF-10, A549, A2780 and MFC, and showed stronger inhibitive activity of these four selected cell lines than cisplatin in the cytotoxic assay. Thus, this study suggests that pogostone analogues, especially A10, represented a kind of promising antibacterial and antineoplastic agents. © 2015 Elsevier B.V.

Aim: Cardiac microvascular endothelial cells (CMECs) dysfunction contributes to cardiovascular complications in diabetes, whereas, the underlying mechanism is not fully clarified. FoxO transcription factors are involved in apoptosis and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Therefore, the present study was designed to elucidate the potential role of FoxO3a on the CMECs injury induced by high glucose. Materials and Methods: CMECs were isolated from hearts of adult rats and cultured in normal or high glucose medium for 6 h, 12 h and 24 h respectively. To down-regulate FoxO3a expression, CMECs were transfected with FoxO3a siRNA. ROS accumulation and apoptosis in CMECs were assessed by dihydroethidine (DHE) staining and TUNEL assay respectively. Moreover, the expressions of Akt, FoxO3a, Bim and BclxL in CMECs were assessed by Western blotting assay. Results: ROS accumulation in CMECs was significantly increased after high glucose incubation for 6 to 24 h. Meanwhile, high glucose also increased apoptosis in CMECs, correlated with decreased the phosphorylation expressions of Akt and FoxO3a. Moreover, high glucose incubation increased the expression of Bim, whereas increased anti-apoptotic protein BclxL. Furthermore, siRNA target FoxO3a silencing enhanced the ROS accumulation, whereas suppressed apoptosis in CMECs. FoxO3a silencing also abolished the disturbance of Bcl-2 proteins induced by high glucose in CMECs. Conclusion: Our data provide evidence that high glucose induced FoxO3a activation which suppressed ROS accumulation, and in parallel, resulted in apoptosis of CMECs. © 2013 Peng et al.
