In order to solute the durability problems of current marine concrete because of the poor cracking performance, the effect of three kinds of fibers with different contents to the compressive properties and crack resistance of marine concrete was studied. And the resistance of chloride ion permeability of marine durable concrete under different fiber content was evaluated using the RCM method. The results show that, the incorporation of different fiber can increase the the marine concrete compressive strength and splitting strength; the electric flux and chloride ion diffusion of marine concrete with different fiber content decreased, and the decreasing range gradually increasing as the fiber content increased. the performance of marine concrete under three different fiber content was contrasted, it can be seen that the incorporation of 1.5 kg/m3 high-strength high modulus polyethylene fiber is the best, having the most outstanding performance.

Road safety audit concept has been applied successfully in many developed countries in the past twenty years. But this concept has been applied to few projects in the pre-opening and trial operation stage in China. This paper will describe how to use road safety audit concept in pre-opening and trial operation stage for Qinglian Freeway. The objective of this paper is to illustrate the successful experience of the safety audit concept and to discuss the problems in real world application. In addition, treatments for typical safety issues recommended for this project can be applied to similar highway upgraded projects. © 2010 ASCE.

Pavement reflective cracking performance depends not only on layer material characteristics, but also on layer interface conditions. One way to potentially enhance cracking resistance is by applying a specially designed polymer modified asphalt emulsion (PMAE) at the interface. PMAE residue wicks up into mixture voids and creates an asphalt-rich mix near the interface, defined as bonded interface, which is more than an adhesive film. Therefore, shear strength tests, which can well characterize the adhesive film effect along the interface, cannot fully capture the effect of bonding agents on cracking across the interface. In order to evaluate the effect of interface conditions on cracking performance, a composite specimen interface cracking (CSIC) test was developed. This test was designed to initiate and propagate a crack from one material layer through the interface into the other material layer(s). The characteristics of bonded interfaces, CSIC test, and some results obtained from CSIC tests were presented in this paper. Results show that CSIC test is an effective tool to evaluate the effects of interface conditions on reflective cracking performance. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Flexible pavements comprise a majority part of highways in china. Many highway bridges are constructed in these highways. These primary highway bridges are subjected to the same heavy loading as the conventional asphalt pavement, but caused much more significant damage than the conventional asphalt pavement. As hot-mix asphalt (HMA) is a visco-elastic material and the all around environment is different between road pavement and bridge deck, the structural or load-carrying capacity of road pavement and bridge deck is different. Thus, to accurately determine in situ strength characteristics of flexible pavement, it is necessary to predict the temperature distribution within the HMA layers and find the difference between road pavement and bridge deck. The majority of previously published research concentrated on pavement temperature prediction. To confirm the bridge deck temperature profile, observing the temperature at bridge deck and road pavement for two months. Compared with the temperature profile of bridge deck and road pavement, find the difference between them. Then some daily temperature prediction models are analyzed and develop a modified double-sine model to simulate the surface temperature variation of bridge deck. © (2011) Trans Tech Publications.

Because of complex topography of bridge sit, many high piers bridges with unconventional configurations in western mountainous areas of China are used in highway. The damage of the bridges in the Wenchuan earthquake told us that the new concepts and measures should be used in mountain bridges design. The importance of the seismic concept design, the structure analysis and the details of seismic measures for bridge was discussed. Combined with seismic resistance of T shape rigid bridge with high piers in Dina 2 gas-field of China, comparative analysis on double thin-wall piers and hollow thin wall pillar is carried out. Focusing on seismic performance of their dynamic properties and structure under the condition of one-way incentive and three-dimensional space incentive, we conclude that the seismic performance of double thin-wall piers is superior to hollow thin wall pillar, on the basis of the fact that double thin-wall piers contains more than hollow thin wall pillar low-frequency vibration frequency in sectional characteristic and pier under the condition of high basic agreement, which is easily causing to frequency dispersion. © 2006-2011 Asian Research Publishing Network (ARPN).

Road safety audit and speed management concepts have been accepted as valuable tools for traffic safety. These two new concepts have been separately applied successfully in some projects in recent years in China. Form the aspect of traffic safety, the two concepts coincide as in nature. But few projects have been integrated with the two concepts to improve safety. The paper will describe how to combine safety audit with speed management in detail design stage and in pre-opening and trial operation stage for QL Freeway. The objective of the paper is to present how to introduce speed management in safety audit process, to discuss the problems of typical technique and successful experience during application of the two concepts. © 2010 IEEE.

Shrinkage of semi-rigid materials like cement treated base subjected to thermal coupled with moisture has raised crack in semi-rigid base, which causes reflective crack in the asphalt concrete top layer. The deformation characteristics of cement treated base subjected to thermal coupled with moisture is researched through the strain acquired by the vibrating wire string gauge installed in the cement treated base while construction. And it is found that transverse deformation is larger than longitudinal strain which may raise greater stress in longitudinal direction as the restriction is stronger. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The Gujiashan tunnel on the Beijing-Kunming G5 line of the national highway network is a karst tunnel and is characterized by many deep and narrow vertical karst fissures, karst troughs, and karst ditches. Such measures as backfilling, reinforcement, and bridging were adopted for this project, and advance support with φ75 mm large-diameter self-drilling rock bolts was widely applied in the construction of the Gujiashan tunnel.

Increasing public interest and concern about transportation projects impacts on the national environment. Context Sensitive Design (CSD) is among the most significant concepts to emerge in highway project planning, design, and construction in recent years. However, CSD needs to be felt its way to effectual practice through a multitude of trials and misconceptions in China. The objective of paper is to summarize activities and finding in the CSD field during MeiheFreeway construction. Meihe Freeway is a successful CSD project. As a MeiheCSD team number, the author presents the CSD approach, addresses context sensitive solutions to CSD issues with flexible concepts. The paper illustrates issues and lessons learned from CSD alignment design with consideration of constrained budget, stakeholder values, ecological balance and environmental protection. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
