In recent years several special milk products intended for young children have been marketed, named "children's milk" or "young children's milk" similar to "milk for kids" "growing-up milk" or"toddler milk". These products are claimed to be advantageous as compared to cow's milk. The Nutrition Committee of the German Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine (DGKJ) reconfirms its position from the year 2001 that special milk drinks for young children including follow-on formulae are in principle not needed. If toddler milks are used instead of cows' milk the nutritional composition of these products should be similar to whole cows milk regarding nutrients such as calcium, vitamins A and B2 and similar to low-fat cows milk regarding energy content. The content of critical nutrients such as iodine and vitamin D should be in line with the European directive for follow-on formulae. Flavoring and sweetening agents should not be added. Toddler milk should be drunk from a cup or mug but not from a feeding bottle. © 2011 Springer-Verlag. Source
