In this paper we consider design principles for three high-performance microprocessor multi-channel strain-gauge systems used in dynamic tests of different structures (endurance tests of alighting gears, mobile control of wagon wheels, etc.). It is underlined that, in contrast to well-known systems, strain gauges power supply is performed by direct current. To avoid the impact of self-heating temperature errors on measurement results, strain gauges power supply is activated for short periods to measure the deformations of a structure. © 2013 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Four passes were performed in the welding process of a 700-mm diameter pipe and 1800 × 1800-mm size steel sheet with a hole for the pipe. Welding defects were simulated by embedding artificial defects at the root of the welded seam (pores, cracks, slag, faulty fusions, and titanium inserts) and violating the welding procedure. The quality of the welded connection during the welding process was evaluated by the acoustic-emission method. After the completion of the welding the specimen underwent ultrasonic and radiographic inspection. © 2015, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

The problem of stability of cylindrical shells with an elliptical cross-sectional contour reinforced by a set of stringers under combined loading by bending and twisting moments, transverse force, and internal pressure is studied with the use of the variational method of finite elements in displacements. The subcritical stress-strain state of the shells is assumed to be moment and nonlinear. The effect of nonlinearity of deformation of the shells and their ellipticity on the critical loads and buckling type is determined. © 2010 MAIK/Nauka.

Experimental values of complexes of aerodynamic derivatives were obtained in a wind tunnel and analyzed for subsonic flow of a passenger aircraft model with harmonic oscillations on the rolling and yawing angles. It was demonstrated that for near-critical angles of attack, the complexes of aerodynamic derivatives taken for rolling and yawing have a string dependency on the normalized oscillation frequency. It was proven that this dependency is driven by derivatives with respect to angular velocities and angular acceleration. A mathematical model for aerodynamic loads was developed; it can be applied for aircraft flight dynamic problems and has satisfactory approximation to experimental aerodynamic characteristics. © 2013 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.
