The theoretical basis of ferritic ductile iron castings suitable for low temperature service was discussed. The production technologies of ferritic ductile iron castings suitable for low temperature service were introduced, such as chemical compositions, microstructure, mechanical property and work flow. The ferritic ductile iron castings suitable for low temperature service which tensile strength is more than 400 MPa, elongation is more than 18%, impact energy at -40℃, -50℃, -60℃ is more than 12 J were produced successfully, the castings meet the requirements of customers. ©, 2015, Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society. The bogie bearing housing is one of the key parts for CRH300 high speed train, and is manufactured with QT400-18AL(-40°C) ferrite ductile iron. According to the demands of mechanical properties, high purity pig iron was used as metal charge. The foundry process, the chemical composition and microstructure are strictly controlled. The impact strength in different temperature are as follows: 20.8J (20°C), 19.4J(0°C), 19.2J(-20°C), 16.8J(-40°C), 13.6J(-50°C). The bogie bearing housing has been manufactured with this full ferrite ductile iron on batch production. Source
