In this paper, an arc runner model is developed to study behaviors of the arc motion for different current levels and resistance of arc runners. By using high speed CCD camera the arc movements are observed and the influence of resistor of arc runners is analyzed. According to experiment results of the arc motion between parallel poles, for the certain configuration the increase of the pole resistance can reduce the speed of arc motion. However, with the increase of the current, this effect fades gradually. A simplified mathematical model is proposed to explain the reason for the resistance of the arc runner delays arc motion. Without considering the fluid characteristic of the arc, further work may be done to analyze the phenomena that with the higher current, the arc delay effect of resistance fades. © 2011 IEEE.

For a simplified arc quenching chamber of molded case circuit breaker (MCCB), based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software FLUENT, a physical and mathematical model of the high current breaking process of the gas flow and pressure field in arc quenching chamber is built. The erosion of gassing material and contact material, actual arc power is considered in the model. Based on this model, the influence of different arc position, different numbers of bilateral air vents and whether the arc chutes are endothermic on the variation rule of chamber pressure, temperature and velocity with time in arc quenching chamber is simulated and analyzed. The change of arc shape and the temperature distribution on the surface of arc chutes are also obtained by simulation. Simulation results show that with the increasing numbers of bilateral air vents, the maximum pressure in arc quenching chamber decreases. The position of the arc in the chamber affects the maximum pressure value and the moment it appears. Absorbing heat of arc chutes from arc decreases the maximum pressure in chamber. © 2015 IEEE.

By considering properties of the arc, heat and radioactive phenomena and air blow, a simplified simulation model is introduced to investigate relations of the pressure and arc power. Influence of different wall parameters such as shape and materials are considered in the simulation model. According to the simplified simulation model, the corresponding experiment model is established to measure the pressure and arc power in arc interrupting process with different wall parameters. By comparing relations of pressure and arc power, the experiment results verify the validity of the simulation model. © 2015 IEEE.

In low-voltage apparatus, characteristics of the arc motion can be influenced by magnetic field, gas flowing, electrical field etc. Many studies have been done to investigate effect of magnetic and gas flow force to the arc movement. In this paper, a 2D MHD model is established to analyze arc separating process across the splitter plates. High resistance electrode is introduced to simulate voltage gradient between splitter plates because of voltage drop effect. Distributions of temperature and electric field intensity are analyzed in parallel electrodes model. Based on optimization of electric field, a gradually closing electrodes structure is designed and the corresponding simulation model is calculated. The results of simulation and experiment are consistent. © 2015 IEEE.

In this paper, the fluid-solid interaction model of the impact process of internal pressure in arc chamber on housing structure of low-voltage circuit breaker is established, including the computational fluid dynamic (CFD) module that can assess 3-D pressure distribution of internal gas flow in the arcing chamber and finite element module (FEM) to calculate the impact of high-pressure gas flow on the housing. Based on the CFD module, the internal pressure distribution under different breaking currents and venting conditions is simulated, in which the simulation results agree well with the experimental results. Then, based on the 3-D pressure distribution, through the 3-D FEM of housing impact, the dynamic stress and deformation of chamber housing are simulated and analyzed. By this method, the stress concentration region of arc chamber housing can be predicted, which can provide reference for structure optimization design of arc chamber. For the region where stress is concentrated, structural strength needs to be enhanced, which can effectively avoid rupture problems due to local excessive stress on the housing. © 2011-2012 IEEE.

GB/Z 22074 Reliability Test Method for Moulded Case Circuit-Breakers regulates the general requirements of reliability verification test for moulded case circuit breaker, specifies that moulded case circuit breaker adopts operation failure rate instantaneous protection success ratio and overload protection success ratio as its reliability characteristics. Furthermore, it divides the reliability levels for moulded case circuit breaker according to reliability characteristic value and provides basis for evaluation and promotion of reliability of moulded case circuit breaker. This article presents the work of reliability evaluation test on CM3-100 moulded case circuit breaker taken by Changshu Switchgear Mfg. Co., Ltd. according to < GB/Z 22074 Reliability Test Method for Moulded Case Circuit-Breakers> and provides reference for the enterprise on relevant reliability test.

This paper introduces the Failure Mode Effect Analysis method, which is applied in the design of the electric and electronic products. The IGBT driven circuit of the inverts is chosen as an example in order to explain clearly how to use the FMEA method. Using this method, the efficiency of the designers and the reliability of the product can be improved greatly.

This paper aimed to investigate the influence of saltspray experiment to electrical contact performance between circuit breaker's main circuit busbar and bridge type contact. Put these samples in different concentration of salt fog to conduct accelerated corrosion test. What's more, developed equipment that can precede auto-complete texting contact resistance, save and analysis the text data at the same time. The equipment used the four-terminal method and relied on the on-off process of programming control relay to switch detection channel to text the contact voltage drop one after another. Focused on the test data fitting process and created GM(1,1) model based on the measured data to proceed grey forecast to predict whether the main circuit would invalid within the set lifetime from manufacturers.

Two kinds of contact driving structures of ZN85A-40.5 vacuum circuit breaker are introduced, and their action processes are simulated by ADAMS (Automatic Dynamic Analysis of Mechanical Systems) and tested on prototypes. Base on the data their characters are analyzed, and the result shows that the disk-spring structure is more stable.

A moving contact member of circuit breaker, which belongs to the technical field of low-voltage apparatuses, comprises: an insulating support, a pair of fixing plates, a grid plate base, a set of grid plate, a revolving support shaft, a set of parallel conductors, a flexible conductive connecting wire, and a conductive block, wherein, the moving contact member further comprises a fixing support, which is mounted on the insulating support or grid plate base, accompanied with the set of parallel conductor; at least one conductor in the set of parallel conductors is in the fixing support and at a position consistent with the other conductors; the set of grid plates are arranged on either the grid plate base or the insulating support. The advantages of the present invention include: the temperature rise during short circuit on the moving contacts and fixed contacts can be reduced and the performance of short-time current tolerance of the circuit breaker can be improved; the moving contact can be kept small, and the overall volume of the circuit breaker can be controlled effectively; the fixing support is simple in structure and easy to install, which is favorable for economical efficiency and industrial applicability.
