MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play an important role in the development, differentiation, proliferation, survival, and oncogenesis of cells and organisms including nervous system. However, the role of miRNAs in primary neurons of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) after injury was not clear. In this study, a miRNA microarray analysis was performed, and a total of 21 miRNAs were found to be down-regulated following unilateral sciatic nerve transection. The miR-144, miR-145, and miR-214 were further validated using quantitative reverse transcriptase PCR (qRT-PCR). Moreover, in situ hybridization (ISH) experiments using locked nucleic acid (LNA)-modified DNA oligonucleotide probes verified that miR-144, miR-145, and miR-214 were expressed in primary neurons of DRG and down-regulated following sciatic nerve transection. Predictions of potential miRNA targets involved were identified by performing a bioinformatics analysis. These predictions were tested using miRNA luciferase reporter vectors, with Robo2 and srGAP2 evaluated as the potential targets of miR-145 and miR-214, respectively. The role of miR-145 in cultured primary neurons was also investigated, and the result found that miR-145 miR-145 inhibited neurite growth and down-regulated Robo2 expression. Finding from this study suggested that miRNAs of DRG can mediated the course of regeneration including through Slit-Robo-srGAP signaling pathway after injury. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. A customer selection strategy with comprehensive long-term gains was put forward. The procedures are as follows. The selection criteria is based on the interaction and potential long-term value of the customer. The potential value of the customer is calculated according to his interaction history, credibility and active level. These parameters are selected as evaluation parameters for customer's long-term value calculation, and then the profit calculation method accepting the customer service requests as well as the loss calculation method of rejecting service requests are given. The results show that, compared with traditional methods which only focus on current profit maximization, this strategy is better in the long-term profit by more than 30%, and the longer inspection, the more obvious effects can be obtained, which indicates the superiority of the strategy.

A mesoporous bioactive glass (MBG) surface modifed with poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) electrospun fbrous scaffold for bone regeneration was prepared by dip-coating a PLGA electrospun fbrous scaffold into MBG precursor solution. Different surface structures and properties were acquired by different coating times. Surface morphology, chemical composition, microstructure, pore size distribution, and hydrophilicity of the PLGA-MBG scaffold were characterized. Results of scanning electron microscopy indicated that MBG surface coating made the scaffold rougher with the increase of MBG content. Scaffolds after MBG modifca-tion possessed mesoporous architecture on the surface. The measurements of the water contact angles suggested that the incorporation of MBG into the PLGA scaffold improved the surface hydrophilicity. An energy dispersive spectrometer evidenced that calcium-defcient carbonated hydroxyapatite formed on the PLGA-MBG scaffolds after a 7-day immersion in simulated body fuid. In vitro studies showed that the incorporation of MBG favored cell proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells on the PLGA scaffolds. Moreover, the MBG surface-modifed PLGA (PLGA-MBG) scaffolds were shown to be capable of providing the improved adsorption/release behaviors of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2). To improve the efficiency of backwashing in upflow biological aerated filter (BAF), a novel backwashing process named air-water siphon backwashing (AWSB) was proposed and applied on laboratory scale. The effects of backwashing on turbidity and suspended solid (SS) in backwashing effluent using this new backwashing process were compared with those of traditional backwashing process, namely air-water backwashing (AWB). In AWB, the turbidity of backwashing effluent maintained 100 NUT when consumed 60 min and 10.5 L water. However, in AWSB, it declined to 44 NUT, consumed 40 min, and7Lwater. The COD removal of BAF after backwashing was also analyzed. The average removal rate of COD in the reactor backwashed by AWB and AWSB was 89.34% and 90.91%, respectively. Compared with AWB, the backwashing interval had been prolonged 35%. The volume of backwashing water in that AWSB was only 66.7% of that in AWB. The results demonstrated that AWSB required less water and took shorter backwashing time relative to AWB to achieve the same turbidity of backwashing effluent, and AWSB was more effective in removing fouling than that of AWB. More significant advantage of AWSB was that the backwashing interval was effectively prolonged. © 2010 The Research Centre for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Resveratrol (3, 5, 4′-trihydroxystilbene) is a naturally occurring plant phytoalexin which is synthesized by several plants in response to adverse conditions, such as environmental stress or pathogenic attack. Growing evidence suggests that resveratrol exerts the preventing effect on human pathological processes, such as inflammation, atherosclerosis, and carcinogenesis, so it is of catholic concern. Therefore, resveratrol derivatives and analogues have caused great attention both in home and abroad. Relative literature in the last few years about its pharmacological activities and analysis methods were summarized and analyzed in this paper. These compounds have multiple biological and pharmacological activities like resveratrol; but some are superior over resveratrol in activity, selectivity and stability, and have become a research focus in recent years.
