The three main economic traits of DBH, DBH of dominant tree and wood basic density of dominant tree in 13-year-old progeny stand from the second-generation seed orchards of Chinese fir in Changle of Yuhang district, Zhejiang province were analyzed. The results showed that three economic traits were highly significant on each trait among the families, and their broad heritability was high. The genetic correlation coefficient was weakly negative correlated among growth traits and wood basic density. The correlation coefficient was significant positive correlated among 3-year-old tree height, 7-year-old tree height and DBH, 13-year-old DBH Ten better families and individual plants were selected in interim period by index method with two traits of DBH and wood basic density, keeping wood basic density unchanged to compared with experiment population, the average DBHs of the family and individual plant were 7.59% and 59.16% higher than the experiment population respectively.

In order to select the excellent provenance of Parakmeria latungensis, the young forests of 14 provenances were investigated and evaluated comprehensively using analytic hierarchy process (AHP). The results showed that there were significant differences in six traits, including tree height, diameter at breast height, crown density, leaf area, leaf color and afforestation preservation rate among different geographic provenances, showing a huge potential for improvement. The broad heritability of these six traits were 0.835, 0.811, 0.857, 0.823, 0.950, and 0.708, respectively, suggesting these traits were mainly controlled by genetic factors instead of environmental factors. The result of AHP showed that 4 provenances of P. latungensis, which derived from Shunchang of Fujian Province, Xinning of Hunan Province, Longquan of Zhejiang Province and Jiangle of Fujian Province, had the higher promotion and application value in the north of Zhejiang, while 3 provenances of P. latungensis, which derived from Longnan of Jiangxi Province, Ledong of Hainan Province and Jianfengling of Hainan Province, performed poorly in terms of growth, adaptation and ornamental characteristics. ©, 2015, Chinese Academy of Forestry. The growth traits of seed, seedling and young forest of 14 provenances of Parakmeria latungensis were investigated and analyzed. The results showed that the differences in seed weight, seedling height, basal diameter, leaf length and leaf width among provenances were extremely significant, and significant difference in afforestation preservation rate was also found among provenances. The provenances with higher preservation rate were from the northern source, such as Longquan provenance from Zhejiang Province. But provenances from the southern source such as Jianfengling provenance from Hainan Province showed the lower preservation rate. The differences in main growth traits were significant among provenances for young forests, such as 4-year-old tree height, five-year-old tree height and diameter at breast height, 6-year-old tree height and diameter at breast height. The broad heritability of these five traits was between 0.855 and 0.930, which indicated that phenotypic differences of the main growth traits were controlled mainly by genetic factors. Tree height and diameter at breast height were negatively correlated with the latitude, indicating that the decreasing trend of tree growth with increasing latitude of provenances. Tree height and diameter at breast height of young forest were positive related to the longitude, and positively related to the latitude. According to the trial results of the young provenance forest, three superior provenances, Longquan in Zhejiang Province, Shunchang in Fujian Province and Xinning in Hunan Province, were selected. The provenance source region of Parakmeria latungensis was divided into three subregions: the western source subregion, the eastern source subregion and the southern source subregion.
