This paper is presented to introduce a pneumatic system of transportation and separation for complicated materials and supplies. A computational model of discrete phase particles is used to simulate the complicated materials and supplies while the inertial and viscous resistance coefficients of the porous media model on special boundary are determined by comparing the results from experiments. The method of gas/particle two-phase flow is adopted for computational simulation on the transportation and separation system. The characteristics of the flow field are analyzed numerically and the prediction on good pneumatic transportation and separation for materials can be obtained from the simulation work. According to the computational results, a systematic model test platform is developed and a model test is conducted subsequently. Good agreement can be found in the comparison of results from the simulation and model test.

On the basis of practical machining, influences of structural parameters of a restrictor on the load-bearing characteristics of hydrostatic guideway in the Nanosys-1000 ultra precision machine tool were analyzed. The fluid analysis software was used to establish the finite element model of a carrying oil pad and build a related hydrostatic guideway test bench. The pressure field distribution characteristics of the carrying oil pad when its inlet pressure was 1.7 MPa and the oil film thickness was 36 μm were researched. By integrating the pressure to get the oil film capacity, the oil film stiffness was obtained by derivation, and the effects of the different structural parameters on the load-bearing characteristics of hydrostatic guideway were revealed. The results show that the orifice diameter has the greatest impact on the load-bearing characteristics of the ultra precision machine tool, followed by the orifice hole length, while the entrance and export chamfers have little effect on it. When the guide load is lower, expanding the orifice diameter and shortening the hole length can help to improve the load-bearing characteristics of the hydrostatic guideway. However, narrowing the orifice diameter and increasing the length of the orifice hole would be more favorable. As compared with the simulation data and the experimental ones, data errors of three capacity measuring points are 7.9%, 6.9%, 8.6%, respectively. Finally, according to research results, the restrictor structural parameters of hydrostatic guideway in the Nanosys-1000 ultra precision machine tool were determined. ©, 2015, Chinese Academy of Sciences. To find out the relationship between spider’s movement and tobacco fallout from cigarette ends in a cigarette transfer system, the analytical model and numerical model of spider mechanism were developed based on the principle of cigarette transfer in PROTOS2-2 cigarette maker, and the movement trajectory, cigarette catching speed and speed difference of suction carriers in spider were calculated separately. The results showed that: 1) The calculation results of analytical model well agreed with those of numerical model. 2) The speed difference between suction carrier and cigarette increased linearly with the increase of production speed. According to the calculation formula, it was proposed to reduce speed difference via enlarging the radius of pitch circle in planetary gear system. 3) The analytical model and numerical model was validated by the test of tobacco fallout, the amount of tobacco fallout positively correlated to production speed. ©, 2014, Editorial Office of Tobacco Science and Technology. To match the production of ZJ17 cigarette maker with that of downstream packer, via analyzing the main technical parameters and structure, the feeder in ZJ17 cigarette maker was improved as following: 1) installing a spreading roller to even out over-long cut tobacco and allow the feeder to be adaptable to tobacco of different sizes; 2) relocating the smoothing rail, needle roller and picker roller to create a higher initial velocity for tobacco winnowing; 3) redesigning the separator to improve the efficiency of sliver separating; 4) adding a fluidized bed to reduce cut tobacco breakage; 5) replacing the belt conveyor for recycling excess tobacco with a helical conveyor to avoid dust/tobacco leak and tobacco jam; 6) adopting a cylinder to lift suction chamber for eliminating the potential safety risks involved in manually operation. The results showed that the improved ZJ17 cigarette maker reached a speed of 8000 cig./minute with an efficiency of 96.7%, it matched the downstream packer very well; the problems, such as incomplete separation of slivers and the breakage of cut tobacco, were effectively solved, long strands increased by 2.3 percentage points per month, small strands and dust content reduced by 0.12 and 0.07 percentage points per month, respectively. ©, 2014, Editorial Office of Tobacco Science and Technology. In order to study the principle and characteristics of the cutoff system in new type cigarette makers, a mathematical model of the four-linkage rotary ledger mechanism in the cutoff system in PROTOS M8 cigarette maker was derived on the basis of mathematical analysis. The movement relationship between cutoff knife and ledger during cutting was analyzed and calculated, the theoretical errors of the system were taken into account, and the design parameters of the cutoff system were optimized. The results showed that the deviation between knife and ledger should not exceed 0.05 mm; and the inclination angle of cutoff knife carrier and the rotation diameter of ledger corresponding to cigarette length should be accurately calculated and corrected in design, the optimized rotation diameter of ledger should be: theoretical value+(0.2-0.4) mm and the optimized inclination angle of cutoff knife carrier should be: theoretical value +0.1°.
