A typical operation modeling idea for the typical European transient cycle (ETC) was proposed. Composite transient rate is adopted as an input variable to establish the transient emission artificial neural network model. A complete process simulation platform of a turbocharged diesel engine under transient operations was made. Emission simulation of mode test cycle at different EGR rates and variable load operations at different transient rates confirm the accuracy and generality of the simulation platform. Simulation differences for steady state emission and transient emission are less than 3% and 4% respectively. Compared with the experimental data, the generalization simulation of transient emission trend is similar, and the maximum difference is 8%. The simulation platform can be applied to the control strategies of ETC typical transient operations.

A simulation platform of turbocharged diesel engine with EGR loop under transient operations was completed and verified. In order to shorten the transient response time of EGR step change operation, different control strategies for EGR step change time, EGR open valve characteristic and target EGR rate were compared. Results show that shortening EGR step change time and adopting the upcast open valve characteristic control strategies can, on the one hand, improve the transient response of EGR flow mass rate, but, on the other hand, cause torque fluctuation. To reduce torque fluctuation, a comprehensive control strategy of EGR open valve characteristic was put forward, and the improved comprehensive control strategy function of different target EGR rate was defined. Compared with the linearity control strategy, EGR transient response time is reduced by 25%-40%, and its torque fluctuation is decreased by 10%-18% compared with the upcast control strategy.

In order to alleviate the pressure of experimental research of turbocharged diesel engine under transient operations, a whole process simulation platform for turbocharged diesel engine under transient operations was established based on the multi-software coupling technologies of Matlab/Simulink, GT-Power, STAR-CD and artificial neural network. Aimed at the contradiction of NOx and soot emission control with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) of turbocharged diesel engine under transient operations, on this simulation platform, a transient EGR valve control strategy was proposed, which adjusted the EGR valve in adjacent level based on the feedback of its opening according soot control limit under transient operations. Simulation and experimental results prove that the transient emission optimization effect of this control strategy is obvious. On the one hand, compared with the previous control strategy, which closed the EGR valve during the whole transient operations, soot emission is slightly increased by 9.5%, but it is still 9% lower than the control limit. On the other hand, compared with the previous control strategy, NOx transient emission is reduced by 44%. © 2013 Higher Education Press and Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Currently combustion and emission performance of diesel engine under transient conditions has become the researching focus. It's full of research challenges because of highly variability of engine operations and complexity of chemical reactions. A simulation platform of turbocharged diesel engine with EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) loop under transient conditions, based on the software coupling technique of GT-power and Matlab/Simulink, has been established. It simulated the EGR position step change transient operations and constant speed variable torque (CSVT) transient operation. Compared with the experimental results, it predicts the engine dynamics performance accurately. Based on this, the performance influences in three different kinds of fuel injection mass control strategies to the diesel engine under CSVT transient operation with EGR loop were discussed. It is shown that this simulation platform provides a new research method to improve transient diesel performance and explore control strategies of turbocharged diesel engine under transient conditions. © 2010 IEEE.

Due to the high cost of engine bench test under transient operations, a transient simulation platform of turbocharged diesel engine with EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) loop was established. Based on this simulation platform, in order to reduce NOx emissions and control the smoothness of combustion process organization of HCCI (Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition) combustion mode, four control strategies under EGR step change transient operation were discussed, which were the linear control strategy, the upcast control strategy, the sunken control strategy and the compositive control strategy. From the aspect of transient response of combustion boundary parameters, the upcast and the compositive control strategy are superior to the linear and the sunken. The response time of EGR mass flow rate of the upcast control strategy is 40% shorter than the linear, and it is 57% shorter than the sunken. In order to avoid torque ripple during transient process, the compositive and the linear control strategy are superior to the upcast and the sunken. The torque ripple of the compositive control strategy is 18% lower than the upcast. In terms of reducing NOx emissions during transient process, at one time, NOx emissions of the upcast and the compositive control strategy are 11% and 6% less than that of the linear. Reducing the same 12% of the NOx emissions, the upcast and the compositive control strategy can shorten 38% and 19% response time than that of the linear. From the purpose of reducing Soot emission during transient process, at one time, Soot emission of the linear and the compositive control strategy are 23% and 11% less than the upcast. Reach the same Soot emission value, the time of the linear and the compositive control strategy is slower by 36% and 17% relative to that of the upcast. © 2011 IEEE.

Class imbalance problems appear frequently in many real-world classification tasks, causing poor prediction performance for minority class. It is because the trained classifiers are mostly derived from the majority class. In this paper, we describe a novel hybrid sampling method (abbreviated as HYBS) to resolve class imbalance problem. Our method consists of two key components:1)applying Borderline-SMOTE approach to increase samples of minority class; 2)using Tomek link to undersampling the examples belonging to majority class. Based on two strategies above, the number of samples for two classes will be similarly balanced, and meanwhile, the decision region of minority class will enlarge, too. We evaluate the method on five real-world data sets with promising results, showing the proposed method is effective and feasible.
