This paper presents the study of mathematical models for evaluation of solid fuels (biomass especially) calorific properties. The main goal of the models analysis is their application in energy balance of real-scale power plants. A short review of available models and fuel analysis procedures are presented. The models are validated by own-obtained fuel analysis and new coefficients of the models equations are proposed.

The paper discusses a concept of carbon footprint. Carbon footprint was compared with life cycle assessment (LCA). It allows to indicate differences between them. In the next step the methodology and results of analysis carbon footprint of supply fuel to power plant were presented. The results were related to the chemical energy of fuels and also to electricity produced. In the next stage the obtained results were verified by comparing them to literature data.

The main objective of this paper is to evaluate the influence of biomass co-combustion on a boiler thermal efficiency. A coal boilers applied in Polish power sector were analysed and the character of the impact of biomass co-combustion on boiler thermal efficiency was estimated as depending mostly on the kind of combusted based fossil fuel.
