The results of the development of optical fluorescent solid film materials for applications as recording media for two-photon three-dimension bitwise optical memory with nondestructive fluorescent readout are presented. It was shown that photochromic diarylethenes in combination with organic fluorophore phenalenone or inorganic quantum dots CdSe/ZnS provide preparation of multilayer optical disks for working optical memory. Polymer layers based on irreversible light - sensitive chromones are acceptable for making optical disks of the archival type. © 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The fluorescence properties of compounds formed upon irreversible photochemical transformation of some chromone derivatives in toluene were studied. At the first time, the quantum yields of the photoproducts were measured. The relationship between the fluorescence properties and the structure of these photoproducts was elucidated. It was shown that the properties of some chromones make them suitable for the design of light-sensitive recording media for optical discs with non-destructive fluorescence readout of optical information. © 2014 Elsevier B.V. New photochromic molecules based on 1,2-bis(2-methylbenzo[b]thien-3-yl) hexafluorocyclopentenes and fluorescent 5,7-dihydro-1H-1,2,5,7,8-pentaaza-s- indacen-6-one or 1,7-dihydro-5-thia-1,2,7,8-tetraaza-s-indacen-6-one derivatives were synthesized via nucleophilic substitution. Photochromic properties of the compounds and composite mixtures of fluorophores and photochrome were investigated. © 2013 Taylor & Francis.

The regioselective Friedel-Crafts acylation of 1,2-bis(2-methylbenzo[b] thien-3-yl)hexafluorocyclopentene was developed. Depending on the reaction conditions, mono- or bis(bromoacetyl) derivatives are formed as single products in good yields. Further heterocyclizations involving α-bromoketone moieties gave a series of new photochromic compounds. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A simple and general route to 3-cyanochromones containing various substituents on position 2 of the ring is developed. The method is based on condensation of 3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-oxopropionitrile with acid chlorides or anhydrides in pyridine at room temperature. © 2012 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

New fluorescent derivatives of 1-(thien-2-yl)-3-methyl-9. H-thieno[3,4-. b]-chroman-9-one are synthesized and their spectral properties studied. The prepared fluorescent compounds are combined with several photochromic benzothienyl dihetarylethenes to provide mixed systems exhibiting reversible photo-induced fluorescence modulation in solution. The obtained results are promising for the development of polymeric photochromic recording media with a non-destructive fluorescence readout of optical information for RAM with extra large information capacity. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.
