A boom has an x-ray head attached to one end thereof and the x-ray head has an x-ray source disposed therein. In a docked position of the boom, the x-ray source is disabled. In a deployed position, the x-ray source is enabled. A handle attached to the x-ray head is movable into at least two different positions. A first one of the positions disables the x-ray source while a second one of the positions enables the x-ray source. The handle extends a preselected distance from the x-ray source such that the handle maintains at least the preselected distance between the x-ray source and a subject to be exposed thereby.

An apparatus for cone beam computed tomography of an extremity has a digital radiation detector and a first device to move the detector along a circular detector path extending so that the detector moves both at least partially around a first extremity of the patient and between the first extremity and a second, adjacent extremity. The detector path has radius R1 sufficient to position the extremity approximately centered in the detector path. There is a radiation source with a second device to move the source along a concentric circular source path having a radius R2 greater than radius R1, radius R2 sufficiently long to allow adequate radiation exposure of the first extremity for an image capture by the detector. A first circumferential gap in the source path allows the second extremity to be positioned in the first circumferential gap during image capture.

A method for forming a 3-D facial model obtains a reconstructed radiographic image volume of a patient and extracts a soft tissue surface of the patients face from the image volume and forms a dense point cloud of the extracted surface. Reflection images of the face are acquired using a camera, wherein each reflection image has a different corresponding camera angle with respect to the patient. Calibration data is calculated for one or more of the reflection images. A sparse point cloud corresponding to the reflection images is formed by processing the reflection images using multi-view geometry. The sparse point cloud is registered to the dense point cloud and a transformation calculated between reflection image texture data and the dense point cloud. The calculated transformation is applied for mapping texture data from the reflection images to the dense point cloud to form a texture-mapped volume image that is displayed.

An MN array of sensor tiles are attached to a substrate using a compliant layer that includes an adhesive. A thickness of the compliant layer varies depending on a thickness of the sensor tiles so that outward facing sides of the sensor tiles are substantially aligned.


A digital radiographic detector uses predetermined calibration information corresponding to a first operating temperature of the detector. The calibration data is accessible by the detector to compensate a radiographic image captured by the detector at a second operating temperature different than the first operating temperature. The operating temperature of the detector is monitored at approximately the time at which the radiographic image is captured at the second temperature.
