A photostimulable plate reading device (10) including at least one photostimulable plate (12) carrying image data and having two opposite surfaces, an illuminator (20) for homogeneously illuminating a first one of the two opposite surfaces of the at least one photostimulable plate (12) with light emitted in a first wavelength range, the illumination causing the at least one photostimulable plate both to emit light in a second wavelength range by photostimulated luminescence and to scatter light in the first wavelength range; a filter (22) for preventing the light scattered in the first wavelength range from passing and for allowing the light emitted in the second wavelength range to pass, the filter facing a second one of the two opposite surfaces of the at least one photostimulable plate (12); and a detector (24) composed of a two dimensional array of pixels for detecting the light allowed to pass and for obtaining image data therefrom.

A boom has an x-ray head attached to one end thereof and the x-ray head has an x-ray source disposed therein. In a docked position of the boom, the x-ray source is disabled. In a deployed position, the x-ray source is enabled. A handle attached to the x-ray head is movable into at least two different positions. A first one of the positions disables the x-ray source while a second one of the positions enables the x-ray source. The handle extends a preselected distance from the x-ray source such that the handle maintains at least the preselected distance between the x-ray source and a subject to be exposed thereby.

An apparatus for cone beam computed tomography of an extremity has a digital radiation detector and a first device to move the detector along a circular detector path extending so that the detector moves both at least partially around a first extremity of the patient and between the first extremity and a second, adjacent extremity. The detector path has radius R1 sufficient to position the extremity approximately centered in the detector path. There is a radiation source with a second device to move the source along a concentric circular source path having a radius R2 greater than radius R1, radius R2 sufficiently long to allow adequate radiation exposure of the first extremity for an image capture by the detector. A first circumferential gap in the source path allows the second extremity to be positioned in the first circumferential gap during image capture.

A method for obtaining an intra-oral image, the method executed at least in part by a computer system, emits illumination from an intra-oral camera toward an object that is within the mouth of a patient, then obtains image data content of the object at an image sensor of the intra-oral camera. The image content obtained from the imaging sensor is displayed and one or more movement signals indicative of movement of the intra-oral camera along at least two of three mutually orthogonal axes is obtained. The one or more obtained movement signals are interpreted as an operator instruction corresponding to a predetermined movement pattern. At least the display of the image content is changed according to the operator instruction.

Exemplary X-ray imaging systems (e.g., volume radiographic imaging systems, CBCT systems) and/or methods for using the same can provide a detector and a counterweight separately (e.g., scanner or gantry) even though the counterweight and the detector can be positioned in or traverse the same relative space.

A method for 3-D cephalometric analysis of a patient, executed at least in part on a computer processor, displays reconstructed volume image data from a computed tomographic scan of a patients head from at least a first 2-D view and accepts an operator instruction that positions and displays at least one reference mark on the at least the first displayed 2-D view. One or more dentition elements within the mouth of the patient are segmented and one or more cephalometric parameters computed for the patient according to the at least one reference mark and the one or more segmented dentition elements. One or more results generated from analysis of the one or more computed cephalometric parameters are displayed.
