An endoscopic harvesting device removes a vessel from a body. The vessel has an anterior side closest to the skin. A sheath extends in a longitudinal direction with a dissector tip for advancing along the vessel substantially along the anterior side to create a flanking tunnel spaced away from the vessel. A ring-shaped blade is mounted to the sheath and is disposed in a plane substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction and proximal of the dissector tip. The blade forms a lateral loop to encircle the vessel from the flanking tunnel and to make a vasiform cut including a pedicle around the vessel as the sheath advances.

An endoscopic surgical instrument includes a wiping section that is provided at a tip part of an insertion section and is pivoted to wipe off extraneous matter adhering to an observation surface provided at a tip part of a lens the endoscope through a grip section and the insertion section. An axial member is inserted through the insertion section and is connected to the wiping section. An operation section is provided over a whole circumference of a tip end of the grip section in a longitudinal direction of the grip section, is connected to the axial member, and operates the wiping section through the axial member. A center axis of the operation section is coaxial to a center axis of an endoscope when the endoscope is inserted through the grip section and the insertion section.

A blunt dissector for endoscopic vein harvesting has a generally-cylindrical sheath for retaining an elongated endoscope. The sheath is elongated between a distal end and a proximal end. A transparent tip is disposed at the distal end of the sheath. A handle is disposed at the proximal end of the sheath. The sheath includes a selectably closable longitudinal slot having an opened configuration such that the endoscope can be inserted radially into the sheath. The longitudinal slot has a closed configuration that retains the endoscope within the sheath and presents a substantially it) smooth outer surface for use during dissection.

A removable cap for a cardiovascular cannula has a sleeve section with an inner surface adapted to receive a connector end of the cannula. The cap has a top section closing a closed end of the sleeve section. A pull tab extends radially from an open end of the sleeve section. A pair of tear seams are sunk into the sleeve section and the top section defining a tear strip in the cap. The sleeve section includes a segmented snap ring protruding radially inward on the inner surface of the sleeve section except at a pair of gaps coinciding with the pair of tear seams. The top section includes a seal cylinder projecting concentrically from the top section to seal against an inside surface of the cannula connector end.

An endoscopic vessel harvester includes a vessel keeper for capturing a target vessel within a tunnel that has been dissected along the target vessel. A cutter member cuts and cauterizes side branches while the target vessel is slidably captured in the vessel keeper. A spray nozzle carried by the vessel keeper delivers a preservative fluid via a manual control valve and a conduit. The preservative fluid is sprayed on the target vessel proximate a respective side branch immediately after being cauterized. Thus, a harvested vessel is bathed in preservative fluid prior to being actually removed from the body, enhancing endothelial preservation from cascading events.
