An image filtering algorithm based on improved Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) -Random Inertia Weight (RIW) algorithm is proposed in this work. Image denoising is an important task in computer vision and image processing, as images acquired through image sensors are usually contaminated by noise. Image denoising algorithms can be directly used for image restoration and other higher-level tasks as a pre-processing step. The main goal of image denoising is to suppress noise images while preserving their features, such as meaningful edges or texture details, as much as possible. PSO algorithms have gained increasing interest for dealing with continuous optimization problems in recent years. PSO algorithm is an optimization tool based on population, which starts from random solution, finds an optimal value via iteration and has the characteristics of simplicity, efficiency, high precision and quick convergence. This paper proposes to adopt a improved PSO-RIW method to seek the optimal parameter of a fuzzy membership function, then perform fuzzy median filtering on the noise image and recover the gray value of the noise stained pixel point. Experimental results show the proposed algorithm gets better PSNR than other methods mentioned, observably. In terms of visual quality, the proposed algorithm can get the images with more details, smooth profiles and aliasing is restricted. © 2012 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l.

In this paper, we discuss the portfolio selection problem with transaction costs under the assumption that there exist admissible errors on expected returns and risks of assets. We propose a new admissible efficient portfolio selection model and design an improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm because traditional optimization algorithms fail to work efficiently for our proposed problem. Finally, we offer a numerical example to illustrate the proposed effective approaches and compare the admissible portfolio efficient frontiers under different constraints. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. Recovery of rare earths from phosphor sludge produced during fluorescent lamp production by acid leaching was investigated. Experimental results showed that rare earths could be dissolved from phosphor sludge by acid leaching. Compared with HCl leaching and HNO3 leaching, higher leaching efficiency of rare earths from phosphor sludge could be obtained by sulfuric acid leaching. Sulfuric acid was a preferred leaching solvent considering technique costs and environment protection. Leaching efficiency of rare earths was enhanced with increase of leaching temperature, concentration of H2SO4 and agitator shaking rate. Leaching efficiency of Y, Eu, Ce and Tb were 67.9%, 73.1%, 66.4% and 67.9% respectively under the conditions of 45°C, 2 mol·L-1 H2SO4 and 8 h leaching, with 39.2% of Al leached. At 100°C, the leaching efficiency of Y, Eu, Ce and Tb reached 80.4%, 82.2%, 81.4% and 80.0%, with 86.1% of Al leached. It could be noticed from the scanning electron microscope pictures of phosphor sludge that the flat surface of phosphor sludge before leaching was covered by many small Flocculi, and its particles became less after leached, which meant that sulfuric acid reacted with phosphor sludge and made rare earth element released. Electron energy spectrums of phosphor sludge leached by sulfuric acid showed that the weight percentage of rare earths in the residue decreased greatly compared with that before leaching, higher percentage of rare earths in the phosphor sludge was dissolved by sulfuric acid. Carbon was the main matter in the residue.

This paper mainly discusses the application of the particle swarm optimization in logistics distribution routing problems. Combining with the characteristics of logistics and distribution, it established a mathematical model of the distribution routing problem. Introducing three kinds of optimization strategies in the particle swarm optimization to optimize the particle swarm algorithm, constructing three different particle swarm algorithms of LinWPSO, SAPSO and RandWPSO, used respectively the standard of PSO, LinWPSO, SAPSO and RandWPSO to solve calculation cases of problems in logistics and route, the results showed that the performance of the LinWPSO, SAPSO and RandWPSO to solve vehicle routing problem is better than standard PSO. Performance of SAPSO is optimal, which can effectively solve vehicle routing problems of the logistics distribution, when the problem size increases, optimization advantages of the SAPSO will display fully, we can greatly shorten the delivery mileage by using the SAPSO to solve the logistics distribution routing problem. © 2014, Vienna University of Technology. In this paper, we construct a new car-following model with inter-vehicle communication (IVC) to study the driving behavior under an accident. The numerical results show that the proposed model can qualitatively describe the effects of IVC on each vehicle's speed, acceleration, movement trail, and headway under an accident and that the new model can overcome the full velocity difference (FVD) model's shortcoming that collisions occur under an accident, which illustrates that the new model can better describe the driving behavior under an accident than the FVD model. © 2014 Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht.
