Bio-environmental demands are rarely considered in traditional reservoir operation. This would probably lead to degradation of ecosystem. In this paper, ecological storage is clearly defined and its necessity is demonstrated. In the optimization of operation curve for the Danjiangkou reservoir, its ecological water demand is prior considered and an AGA method is adopted, and its ecological storage is determined with the method of ecological operation curve. This provides a theoretical basis for bio-environment-friendly reservoir operation.

A field experimental project was carried out in Jingzhou City, Hubei Province to research the effects of controlled drainage on groundwater table and drainage discharge. And used DRAINMOD model to simulate the designed experiment schemes. The results showed that the numerical results of the groundwater table from DRAINDOD model were quite similar to the practically measured results during cotton growth period, the correlation coefficients were more than 0.9, the simulation results are in line with the experiment results. The underground drainage discharge of each plot was passively correlated with controlled water level, while the surface drainage discharge was positively with it. The underground drainage discharge was larger than the surface. The total drainage discharge was also passively correlated with the controlled water level. The DRAINMOD model can provide good estimates of the groundwater table and the drainage discharge under controlled drainage. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Problems in current research on hydrological serial variation under non-stationary conditions and their impacts on flood control of reservoirs were analyzed. The test methods for hydrological serial variation under non-stationary conditions, the backward restore/forward restore and direct frequency method involved in frequency calculation, and the impacts of hydrological serial variation under non-stationary conditions on flood control of reservoirs were evaluated. It is pointed out that scientific evaluation of the impacts and corresponding measures should be highlighted based on further research of detection methods and frequency analysis.

Mechanical properties of shape memory alloy (SMA) wires were experimentally researched in this paper, and an energy dissipater made of SMA wire cable was designed and applied in a steel frame structure model by using superelasticity characteristics of SMAs to passively reduce dynamic responses of the steel frame structure under seismic load. For the characteristics of large relative displacements between the stories of the steel frame structure on both diagonal ends and the consideration of initial prestrain effects of the SMA cables, three kinds of the whole control, the part control, and no control of the shaking table tests and numerical simulations were carried, respectively. Through the results of the shaking table test and numerical simulation analysis, the dynamic responses such as the maximum displacement, velocity, and acceleration at the top layer of the steel frame structure applied with SMA cables are significantly decreased compared with the no control case. However, considering the premise of both effectiveness and efficiency, the part control effect is superior to the whole control. In many cases, it can meet the control requirement of reducing the maximum displacement and acceleration, while the superelasticity of SMAs can be sufficiently played, realizing the passive control purposes of the steel frame structure based on the energy dispassion through the application of the SMA cables. The proposed method has broad application prospects in the passive control field of building structures. © 2013 Shi Yan et al.

"5.12 Wenchuan earthquake"triggered floods, landslide, collapse and secondary geological disaster, trigger a new soil and water loss, having the significant influence to the local river water quality.This article through the statistical analysis of minjiang river and jiangyou wenchuan, beichuan station 2006 ~ 2011 water conditions material, discussing the before and after the earthquake disaster areas of river water quality change characteristics. The results showed that the affected areas of ammonia nitrogen content after the earthquake are more than before the earthquake content. The fluoride content before earthquake overtop that after earthquake in Wenchuan water source. The total hardness of water quality presents upward trend in disaster area after earthquake, and the total hardness of water quality in 2010 and 2011 is greater then that before earthquake. The total iron content is not affected by the earthquake, before and after the earthquake did not appear obvious difference. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

According to more and more serious problems of water scarcity, water pollution and deterioration of water environment in homeland, floodwater utilization becomes an important content in flood management and a critical solution for above problems. However, because of the uncertainty and subjective factor in the hydrology and water resources systems, floodwater utilization is a risk decision-making and the evaluation on the risk reasonably becomes an important decision-making reasoning problem. Traditional risk evaluation method considers uncertainty of things, but has little study on incompleteness of things and uncertainty of human's subjective decision. An integrated risk evaluation model of floodwater utilization is presented based on D-S theory which can solve these problems successfully and with a case study, some benefit conclusions are provided. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The Edong Yangtze River Bridge was taken as the engineering background which is cable-stayed with the main span of 926 meters. The ANSYS models without controller, with discrete TMD (tuned mass damper) and continuous TMD were established for the comparative analysis of the damping effect on the wind-induced vertical buffeting. The discrete TMD was placed appropriately with only one or a few parts while the continuous TMD was set on the main span or all over the bridge. The control of these two types were both superior to that of a single TMD. The ANSYS results show that continuous and discrete TMD have significant damping effects on the wind-induced vertical buffeting of the bridge. Finally, the bridge model was built according to ratio of similitude, and then wind tunnel test was conducted for the bridge model with continuous TMD and without controller. The wind tunnel test results show that continuous TMD has a salutary effect on the wind-induced vertical buffeting of the bridge.

In order to recover the delta agricultural products processing factory area engineering control network of Venezuela , we have collected the field data by setting points reasonably and employing precise observation program. The field data was then analyzed by the astatic traverse technology and simple adjustment. The result showed that the obtained control points had achieved fourth class precision requirement.
