A right choice of manufacturing intelligence (MI) manufacturing software allows manufacturers to measure overall equipment effectiveness and other performance metrics to meet operational excellence targets. The tools such as manufacturing or operations intelligence (MI/OI), enterprise manufacturing intelligence (EMI), or operations performance management (OPM), provide predictive views of the happenings, showing trends and predictive indicators. Overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) combines quality, speed, and availability into a single metric. Some products such as AcuSYS, Aegis, As One Technologies, ICONICS, Manuvis, Parsec, Prevas, Production Process, Solarsoft, and StatSoft deliver a view across many plant metrics. Products such as Intercim, IQity, myDIALS, QlikView, Rockwell Automation, and SAP bridge real-time performance for plant users and enterprise requirements.

Various software vendors are competing towards providing quality information with quality data dispersed throughout manufacturing organizations. Quality management system (QMS) have capabilities focused on quality processes, such as quality planning, non-conformance management, corrective and preventive action, customer complaints, audits, and risk management. Digital manufacturing software from Dassault Systèmes, PTC, and Siemens can simulate the production process on the virtual product model. Manufacturing execution system/operations management (MES/MOM) plant-wide software systems can prevent problems by enforcing CAPAs and other processing rules. Many automation companies are offering data historians, plus Automsoft, Iconics, Matrikon, and OSIsoft.

Various companies, in a bid to react quickly to the fluctuating market, are using systems that are built on the concept of business process reengineering, due to competitive pressures. Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Progress, and Software AG, offer products implement aspects of the agile, process-based IT infrastructure. The most complete solution is from Cordys, which includes BPM and BAM on an SOA- and cloud-enabled single platform, while major vendors SAP and Oracle have both platform and application businesses. SAP and its partners, such as Applied Materials, B2D Solutions, iBASEt, and TAKE Supply Chain, have created xApps for the SAP platform. Invensys took that further to enable process plants to understand their processing costs in real time. Apptricity focuses on developing composite application add-ons to core applications.
