Considering the interaction of building-soil-tunnel, the case of frame building with independent foundation undercrossed by double-line parallel shallow embedded tunnel is simulated by FLAC3D. The results show that the stiffness of frame structure has a remarkable effect on foundation settling tank of the upper building. In the direction of perpendicular to the tunnel axis, the largest differential settlement between two frame columns usually happens around the inflection point of settlement curve, and the existence of the upper structure reduces the differential settlement between columns. The differential settlement relates to the relative position of tunnel face in the direction of parallel to tunnel axis, while it will be a very small value when the tunnel face is far away enough. ©, 2015, Yantu Gongcheng Xuebao/Chinese Journal of Geotechnical Engineering. With the development of urban metro construction, there are more and more under-crossing metro tunnels completed under buildings in Beijing. However, the evaluation method for the upper buildings influenced by under-crossing metro tunnels is not mature. Based on the analysis of the measured settlement of the upper buildings, following conclusions are drawn: (1) The settlement of the upper buildings influenced by double tunnels can be calculated by the superimposed modified Peck equation; (2) Only appearance measurement, crack record and non-destructive detection are necessary for the evaluation of the upper buildings; (3) The additional incline for any local part of strip foundation must be in the control range, and the area with large additional incline value should be highlighted in monitoring; (4) The evaluation of a upper multi-story building can be finished after three steps: a) The completion drawings of the building are used to confirm; b) The appearance measurement, structural detection and original documents are stored for preserving the evidence; c) By reducing the existing deformation of building foundation from the total allowable value, the additional deformation during construction period is given. ©, 2015, Yantu Gongcheng Xuebao/Chinese Journal of Geotechnical Engineering. Due to the design requirements or the restrictions of construction conditions, special capabilities of construction equipments and construction techniques are required in the improvement project of soil and foundation of existing building. In one improvement project of the existing building, new type micro-pile technique for improvement of soil and foundation of existing buildings is adopted: (1) a type of specially manufactured micro drilling machine is used in the construction of the micro piles, which has smaller dimensions in length, width and height and better adaptabilities to the construction environment of improvement project of soil and foundation of existing buildings; (2) in order to adapt to the narrow construction space of the improvement project of soil and foundation, a type of improved micro pile construction technique is adopted, which shows high efficiency in construction of micro piles and superior quality guarantee of micro piles. The application of the new techniques of micro pile shows high adaptability in narrow construction environment, such as improvement project of existing buildings, and it can be applied more extensively in similar project. ©, 2015, Editorial Office of China Civil Engineering Journal. The fast development of urban metro construction is a well-known fact in China, which has played an important role in alleviating urban traffic congestion. However, metro lines are generally located in downtown districts or residential areas of cities, disasters of the upper adjacent buildings caused by tunnel construction are more and more obvious.
