System 1.0, apparatus and method may permit users to collaboratively engage in inference on a computer and visualize structure of that inference, and provide a formal verification system for informal argumentation and inference. The system and method may generate and allow for modification of graphical structures that represent sequences of structured rational argumentation; and automatically monitor, compute and represent ratings or scores of nodes within the structure; indicate whether a node is supported by a chain of argumentation that has not been validly rebutted. The graphical structures may be displayed to bring into focus contentious and significant underlying points within an argument, and simulate the effects of alternative resolutions of these contentious points. The graphical displays may provide a transparent verification to other users of the state of what can be demonstrated and refuted, allow discovery of weak or missing points in a logical argument, and allow rational inference by users.

Articles of footwear (e.g., soft snowboard boots) that may be tightened from the rear side to enhance heel hold are disclosed. A lace may be coupled to a strap that extends along a portion of the rear side of the boot body. Upon tightening of the lace, the strap is pulled toward the front side and the sides of the boot are drawn inward toward the shaft region of the boot. The lacing system may employ one or more tightening zones where separate regions of the boot may be tightened independently from, or simultaneously with, one another and the various zones of the boot may be separately controlled, tightened independent from one another, as desired.

OBJECTIVES: The prevalence of interstitial lung disease (ILD) in RA is ∼5%. Previous work identified increasing age, active articular disease and articular damage as risk factors for RA-associated ILD (RA-ILD). The roles of high-resolution CT (HRCT) and lung function testing in defining the nature and extent of pulmonary involvement have recently been explored. This study is the first to examine predictive and prognostic factors for the development of RA-ILD and to report on the physiological and radiological characteristics of the condition from a large multicentre UK network.METHODS: We collected data from centres across the UK on patients with both RA and ILD (proved on HRCT) diagnosed over a 25-year period from 1987 to 2012 using a standard pro forma. Potential predictors of RA-ILD were analysed. Baseline lung function data were recorded and related to HRCT findings. We analysed HRCT for subtype and extent of lung involved and examined the relationship between these and both all-cause and pulmonary mortality. We compared our results with case controls matched for age and gender using computer-generated selection from the RA population from one contributing centre.RESULTS: A total of 230 patients were identified from across the UK with proven RA-ILD diagnosed over 25 years. Median age at diagnosis was 64 years and the male:female ratio was 1:1.09. Univariate analysis showed anti-CCP antibody titres to be the single most strongly associated predictor of RA-ILD. Male gender, age at onset, smoking and RF were all independently associated with RA-ILD on multivariate analysis. Vital capacity (VC) was preserved in limited disease but reduced in extensive disease, while gas transfer was reduced in both. Usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) was the most common subtype on HRCT and both this and extensive disease were associated with increased all-cause mortality.CONCLUSION: This is the largest study of RA-ILD in the UK. Anti-CCP antibodies were strongly associated with RA-ILD in both sexes. Smoking was strongly associated with ILD in males, which may explain the higher frequency of RA-ILD in men. The predominant HRCT pattern was UIP and most patients had limited disease at presentation. The presence of UIP and extensive disease are associated with increased mortality. Baseline gas transfer is a useful screening tool for ILD, while the preservation of VC at baseline might predict limited disease on HRCT. © The Author 2014. An injection molding machine with an injection system and a clamping system. The injection system may include a removable injection module defining a portion of the material flow path. The injection module may include all of parts that come in contact with the material between the material source and the mold. The injection module may include a valve arrangement movable between a fill position to load the injection module with material and an inject position to eject material from the injection module into the mold. The actuators for the injection module may be supported on the machine rather than the injection module. The clamping system may include a platen linear actuator to open and close the mold, and a hydraulic clamping system to apply clamping force to the closed mold. The hydraulic clamping system may include a free-float valve manifold assembly that selectively places the hydraulic cylinders in free-float mode.

A fastener for a vehicle lamp assembly has an adjustable stud and grommet. Positioning grooves on the stud interact with positioning fingers on the grommet in a ratcheting fashion to allow more accurate alignment of the lamp assembly prior to securing the lamp assembly to a vehicle.

A snowboard boot and binding system is disclosed which facilitates the engagement and disengagement of a snowboard boot and binding. The snowboard boot may include a boot engagement member extending from a rear of the boot. The boot engagement member is moved downwardly into a corresponding binding engagement member to provide an arrangement which prevents forward movement of the boot. The boot engagement member also may include one or more serrations to engage with one or more pawls on the binding to prevent upward movement of the boot. A snap-in arrangement may be provided in a boot toe region. The boot has protrusions extending outwardly from each side of the boot to engage with catches on the binding sidewalls. As the boot is pressed downwardly into the binding, the protrusions splay the catches until reaching recesses, at which point the catches rebound to capture the protrusions against upward movement.

The claims for sociomateriality are reviewed and two key problems are isolated: a failure to be specific about technology and a neglect of broader social structures. These problems are located in the formulations of Barad. Her notion of agential realism is contrasted to an alternative perspective constructed using the resources of critical realism. The potential of the latter to contribute to the refreshing of the socio-technical tradition is outlined. This tradition offers more resources for the consideration of the important role of the material in contemporary organizing than sociomateriality, which is argued to be a wrong turning. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd.
