A vast majority of the ovarian and the breast cancers are sporadic and result from the accumulation of genetic damage. Most preclinical data suggest that women experiencing ovarian cancer are prone to breast cancer and vice versa. Similar domains and similar binding sites often imply similar protein-protein interactions and similar functions. Zinc finger of P53 and Ring finger of BRCA1 are similar domains having mostly binding activity. BRCT domain of BRCA1 is helpful in DNA-damage repair and cell cycle checkpoint functioning. This study sets out to check similar pattern, domain and residue-specific mutation, which may interact with expressions of P53 and BRCA1. © 2011 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd. Source

Evidences from the crime scene inculcating mixed DNA profiling data has always been a challenge to the forensic science laboratories and the crime investigation agencies. Not only it confuses the analysis but it may lead to serious fatal errors in analysis of final results which may result in convicting an innocent and quittance of a criminal free. 16 STR markers have become one of the most widely used genomic markers for identity testing and gene mapping due to their high degree of heterozygosity. We introduce forensic bioinformatics approach which proved to be very quick, precise and conclusive in assessment and analysis of the raw DNA profiling data provided from the laboratory. In the present study, we have discussed the utility of forensic bioinformatics application to Short tandem repeat (STR) data in a theft and looting case which was used to evaluate specific regions (loci) within nuclear DNA. The analysis was made through an 'MS-Excel database management tool' where the DNA Profiling data provided by the Forensic Laboratory was managed and analyzed on the grounds of the various loci present and their variability in different individuals. Mutation in HIV-1 pol gene confers the resistance to antiretroviral drugs. Three nucleotide sequences of HIV-1 pol gene products were selected and HIV BLAST was performed. Amino acid positions of 30 sequences were compared with HXB2 reference strain. Two sequences of protease show the major mutation with mutations sites of I54Vand V82A and 8 sequences shown other mutations. One sequence of integrase with minor mutation of E157Q and 9 sequences with other mutations were inferred. This study is useful in making more accurate prediction of results with better combination Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) and important mutations. © 2011 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd. Lung cancer is the significant contributor of increased cancer deaths. Earlier research indicates that the environmental factors have a major role in causing lung cancer. It is evident that the pathway of lung cancer includes both RAS-mediated and non-RAS-mediated mechanisms. Clinical Findings point to a wide variety of other cancers contributing to lung cancer incidence. Such a scenario makes identification of lung cancer difficult and thus identifying its mechanisms can contribute to the society. Our study involves the RAS subfamily that includes a set of proteins, which cause an over expression of cancer-causing genes like M-ras and initiate tumour formation in lungs. © 2010 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd. The aim of the present analysis is to create a complete database of Simple Sequence Repeats (SSRs) occurring in the Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs) of Human Genome.
